There's speculation that the reason prokaryotic life has not formed into more complex multicellur forms is that since they lack mitochondria they lack the ability to perform respiration at a larger level. This is because mitochondria are uniquely suited to perform respiration at a large scale because they contain their own genetic information helping to coordinate and adapt to conditions inside each unique mitochondria itself. This is important because the mitochondria if it does not maintain hemostasis of proton and electron gradients will in effect electrocute itself to death. This means most mutations that could have lead to respiration in a bacterial cell would inevitably kill said bacteria. This is a important concept, if mitochondria had not migrated into eukaryotes and formed symbiosis they likely would not have had the ability to coordinate themselves. This doesn't mean a bacteria forming its own mitochondria is impossible, it just makes if very very unlikely hence why bacteria have trouble becoming multi cellular

but how do you know whats going on or is this visualised concepts
@corticalstudios
@corticalstudios Ай бұрын
It is a visual concept in the sense that it is very simplified. In real life, it would be a chaotic soup of proteins, etc. However, the proces shown here has been proved in labs with fundamental research. That said, the shape of the mitochondrion, usually depicted in this way, turns out to be much different (more spaghetti/coral-like, and not static). So there is still a lot to be learned. Thanks!
