Wonder how abusive he was when the cameras weren’t around. Golf is hard enough as it is man. No need to add that much pressure to a little girl.

These parents are insane. Borders on good abuse. Their kids are not that good and you really don't know until they are 18, 19 or even 20 years old. 90% of the pro game is mental. Especially golf and tennis. Maybe 1 kid out of 10,000 makes it as a pro for more than one year, maybe 1 out of a million make more than 250,000 annually.

If youre a parent of a golfer, this video is what NOT to do. Amari has thankfully done very good so far at USC and has a bright pro future, despite her dad. And i hope all works out for her, but i feel terrible this is how she grew up, this is how you burn out your kid

I had a similar situation where my parents lived through me and loved my accolades before burnout. Amari has more pro coaching and is doing great in college so I assume and hope she succeed in whatever she wants.

She’s ranked 23 in the world at the moment so I’ll say that whatever he did isn’t too much off the mark. Let’s criticize the parents of the players that are doing worse. Maybe we’ll find they were tougher on their kids or maybe we won’t find that

There's a delicate balance that you have to have between pushing your kid to work hard and succeed - and pushing them too far to where the burn out on the game. Luckily, she turned out just fine and is succeeding. However, this behavior from a parent could have easily pushed her to quit by the time she was 10.

@@ejjamzz exactly. The original commenter just wanted to insert himself and give himself a pat on the back. Like congrats... I guess? Point is, kids should be able to enjoy playing the sport- not have anxiety about whether or not their effort was enough to please their washed-up parents.

It's only beneficial to push a kid if he has the potential talent which this kid doesn't have at all! Mainly because his Dad never had the potential to play at a high level... Trying to push and live valicariously through him.... Most kids that make it have parents that played college or professional sport and have the natural ability.
@dibsports

Not always true. The kid wants to want it. Plenty of college/pro parents don’t have their kids playing their own sport sometimes.

Really enjoyed that clip. I think the very label 'talented' is dangerous (Carol Dweck). I see so many parents anxious to label their children as footballers, mathematicians, musicians, etc. - all to the detriment of the child as all it does is switch them off to the things which they are not *yet* able to do proficiently (compared to their peers). I do like the Damien Duff quote which is related to this subject - I'll put a link here :) www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer/damien-duff-fed-up-with-pain-in-the-arse-parents-at-rovers-1.3260803
