The only thing that I learn was that anyone can pickup a disk and turn it one way or the other in a video without educating us as to, should the label face up or down. I guess people will do anything to get a view on KZfaq. Maybe I should post a video asking “should I use my left hand or right hand to open a jam jar” and see how many hits I get.

Great job! Ur doing ur job properly, unlike my workplace who are also a structural steel fabrication company however they tack their plates on unclean and on rusty beams with mill scale too. This is the proper way to do it. Grind the weld area of any rust and mill scale for a stronger weld and reducing the risk of porosity or other weld defects which may lead to re-work. But once again, my workplace dont care and if they get porosity they just weld over it and theyre like "ohhh itll do"

So i take it the key is to cutting the plate on an angle so as to reduce the surface contact with the blade to the material...ergo saves the blade from being force through more metal less heat and blade warping amd risking teeth snap off....never thaught of it till the day i tried cutting a 3/8 plate with a 12" cutting wheel normally meant for cutting bolts and then i realised that standing the plate up in the vice you could get better results...so i suppose the principle is the same...may be a newb observation but eh...you gotta try and learn new ways eh

This is exactly how you are supposed to weld mig. No more stacking dimes because that’s actually a cold lap poor weld when you stack dimes. Nice work you could have welded for me ! I’d turn you loose and walk away and come back on payday to pat ya on the back!

To cut that far back, then cutting the points off, you’re wasting time and materials. Too many steps. 1/3rd of the pipe diameter is all you need to cut back. Then grind insides. That’s it. Done. Don’t complicate things

A lot of marking out for something you can just eye up. All U needed was the top centerline and a bubble on the top flange to the side of the plate

Nice. So you level the top flange (with the centre line marked) and plumb the side of the plate for its tack position. ?

You made a rookie mistake by not locating the flange holes off of the centerline of the web. This fails to correct for mill tolerance and can make a misfit when bolting together the beam.
