I’m confused. You pointed the arrow the wrong way when you put your filter in. You turned the filter around and pointed the arrow away from the furnace.

Thank you so much Jeff! I originally just googled direction of filter, then somehow still confused myself, waking up in the night, thinking I put it in backwards. I then turned it toward the "air flow duct (?)" Now I know I was right the first time. We are so lucky to have knowledgable people creating KZfaq videos!!! 🙏🙌

Who designed the arrow? and why does it say air flow? the air flows away from the furnace does it not? thanks for the 1000 IQ intuitive design. Why doesn't it say furnace? anyway thanks.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who needed help with this. The arrow on my filter says "air flow" which can be confusing. It's easy to misinterpret that the air should be flowing in the direction of the arrow and not have the arrow pointing towards the air flow. Thanks for clearing this up.

So in a mobile home where the furnace door pops off the front and the filters slide in a track, I should have the arrows pointing towards the inside where all the working parts are, not towards me? Is this correct?

Yeah, same. I don't know how many times Ive did it wrong. I am usually good at changing them every 3 months, but I figured the arrow meant which way the air flows. 🤯

Does my air filter box need to have a cover? Without it, does it affect performance?

If you can see a gap where air can get around the filter and into the furnace, that means dust can too, which of course isn’t ideal. So likely yes it should have a cover to force all the air through the filter. Kind of like drinking out of a cup with a crack in it, most of it makes it in your mouth but some goes all over your shirt. Would probably be best just to get a new cup. 🤷‍♂️

@@videostothepoint5505 Thank you! The maintenance attempted to fix my ac unit a few weeks ago, however, they forgot to put in the filter slot cover, I put the cover on myself last night, and like magic, cold air was blowing out again. They completely overlooked that part.

Hello Sir, my AC unit was installed upside down. My vent where i would replace the air filter is all the way at the top, close to my laundry room ceiling. Which way should the arrow be pointing? Should it be downward or upward since the unit is upside down. Thank you.

My ac unit is a big box, hard to tell what side is what, it’s so cramped up there, right now there’s a blue (washable I guess) filter up there.. the right side of it is the dirty side, does that mean the flow is from right to left?

You got it! So the arrow should point to the left (towards the unit?) so the dirt coming from the right will get trapped as the air flows from right to left. Nice!
