I'm wondering, how is the rocky desert now shaping up as a starting location. I know they had quartz, and it's not hard to get to the coal and oil you also enjoy from northern forest. Did the updates give it better access to other of the rarer materials?

This channel is such an incredible find. Kylo really has done a great job of presenting the information in a very easily understood way. Too often I see some factories others have built and they seem impossibly complex. Kylo’s videos have given me a much deeper view into how they are constructed in modules rather than individual parts.

I'm not sure I'd be willing to call those easten nodes and those western nodes part of your starter factory at the same time, or even part of the Grass feilds. Thats like starting in the Northern forest and dripping into both the dune desert and rocky desert. That said, it wouldn't suprise me if there is an amazing starting location somewhere around the blue crater.

The concept of a "Best starting location" is a bit weird in this game, I am so glad i played my first game blind in grassy fields because it was such a huge adventure to source all the advanced resources, across most of the map. like does it really matter if you have to explore a lot to get everything you need, and set up big transport networks? that's where a huge amount of fun and complexity comes in to the game. For a first playthrough i honestly think the grass fields was perfect.

I like the grass fields but I think my favorite location is the dune desert(?), the palm tree area, tho with losing the coal in the northern forest I’m not sure if there’s any other coal close to there. Honestly I’ll probably start in the grasslands, get to tier 4 then start over somewhere else haha

Northern forest was never fun for me when i play nor when i watch a creator play. It was an area that was always too strong and encouraged the player to just hunker down and not explore. By nerfing it and buffing other areas, it encourages more exploration and less megafactories and more satellite factories

@KyloBuilds
@KyloBuilds 15 күн бұрын
The main reason I don't like starting there is because I will probably want the space for a mega factory later down the line, and I don't want to have to delete everything to do so. But not everyone will want to use that space like i will.

My favorite starting location is somewhat of the underdog location in the northwestern desert just because it has so many resources in copper, iron, and limestone all in relatively high purity, there is a decent amount of foliage to carry you until coal power if you just cross a river, it's got plenty of caterium, coal is everywhere in fairly high purity, there is a large oil deposit to the south and a quartz deposit not that far into the titan forest, sulphur to the north, nitrogen for later on north past the sulphur, and there is a fairly large waterfall which provides plenty of water for any early coal plants and then if you climb the cliffside there is even more water for pretty much everything. The dunes can be an issue for a couple things with how they go up and down a lot but usually you can still build fairly easily. Overall it's a fairly underrated spawn in my opinion.

@OpenGrapevine
@OpenGrapevine 16 күн бұрын
I think considering the Blue Crater close to spawn as a stretch. But I think the new sulfur/quartz nodes go a long way to making the grassy fields viable for a starting base. It lets you get your feet wet with a couple of the other trees more easily now, even if it might not support more serious production. So it still pushes you to explore and expand, which is good The quartz is probably more important to me, just to be able to start doing some slightly more decorative/windows on builds, when you're still working at small scale projects. As other comments have said, water access is still a bit weak in that area, especially close to the added coal nodes. I think I would have preferred fewer new coal nodes, but easily water access near that south/center collection to be a slightly better, if further coal outpost compared to the common coal lake.
@Neerie79
@Neerie79 16 күн бұрын
The way I see things: the starting location is that, a starting location. A place to get your footing, get the more urgent/important stuff, and stock up in order to expand after. Many games are similar, and there's no point in starting in an area where it's the best to build the most advanced stuff, when you don't even have the means to build these things yet. Plus if I build my starter plants where I'll be building my late game stuff, a lot of destruction will need to happen. I'm bad at architecture in this game, but I'll show FICSIT that I can be a great pioneer, I'll CONSTRUCT, EXPLORE, EXPLOIT, and AUTOMATE every ressources in all the biomes.

I was always under the impression that grasslands was getting shit for it being a shitty place for mid to late game while actually being a decent starting point for the early game... and since about every youtuber who i have been watching play this game has for some reason always started on the desert... my plan already before the node changes were announced was to re-start playing this game when 1.0 comes in the northern forest.... ill just stick to that choice even if its less than optimal now since i have done really little exploration on that area when i have played the game....
@TAiiNE
@TAiiNE 16 күн бұрын
The grass fields has always been one of the more OP starting locations. Not sure what you mean by 'issues been solved'. The quick access to nodes you speak of has already been a thing? The west side of it by paradise island you have that little oasis with the 4 coal nodes, you have two more south along the worlds edge, soooo many pure concrete, iron and copper nodes. Two pure quartz just a small run up a hill and caterium for days... yes in 1.0 one is being yeeted and moving closer with yet another new one being added. Sulfer is also going to be close by and boxite is just up on a cliff plus just water everywhere. That isn't counting the gas nodes and such also found and the 4 oil nodes along the west cost. Really it has everything you need to start out even before 1.0. Plus some of the late game stuff by the time you need it you're already expanding across the map. Most people I've asked about what they view as the best starting location they all say around the same area. Heck do a search on here for best starting zone and grass fields is the most common answer. Plus it's mostly flat open land. I think I only seen one video say the northern forest is bets and that was due to just a few nodes, but do the math and look at the calc site it's not even near the amount offered in the grass fields. The ore changes isn't going to really change that outside giving us more easy access to stuff.
@jasam01
@jasam01 11 күн бұрын
Grass feilds has always been the worst, and least beginner friendly start, because the area it spawns you is the absolute furthest away from Coal(with water), and later oil, reguiring a lot of on-foot travel and forcing logistics early. If you are an experianced player, this is all moot, as you'd move somewhere a bit better then the nearest node to your spawn.
@TAiiNE
@TAiiNE 11 күн бұрын
@@jasam01 .... theres coal with water. 4 normal coal nodes with one having a rock on it to be exact just north of a large lake of water. My first playthrough landed me on the edge of the upper shelf to that lake. There is also a limestone, iron and copper node along the edge of the lake. Plus plenty of nodes around the lake and the 2 quartz nodes just up the hill always. So not sure what you mean by there being no coal by water.
@jasam01
@jasam01 10 күн бұрын
@@TAiiNE Oh, spawning there's pritty rare, but that is a nice spot. It's like, right at the edge of the spawn circle. Normally you get spawned much further to the south, end up building in the middle of the empty plains, the coal power comes up and you end up walking/climbing all the way over to the lake... if ya lucky (theres coal in the opposite direction with no water). Obviously that's a little eaiser with the better zipline now, but it was a pritty rough firsttimer experiance to have you entire factory a good truckride away from the coal and a long trainride away from oil. And all the MAM resources were similarly far away if you set up near the middle of the spawn circle. Definatly not a newb friendly place to get spawned compared to the other places.

I had considered starting in grasslands... but the changes in the rocky desert made that more interesting... I don't need "pure" when I start the game since I don't have belts for that anyways, so I would rather have more nodes of lesser quality... plenty slugs around to boost a 30/60 node to 60/120...(can boost to 250% but just 200% is fine for now) and 120 is the max on mk.2 belts anyways which is all you got until you start steel up. many also start in the "middle" of grass fields where there are 3 iron nodes, 2 limestone and 1 copper... but if you go south there is like 6 iron nodes, 2 copper nodes and a bunch of limestone...

I've restarted a bunch of times. I always have preferred the Dune Desert. I don't see anything that's going to change that. It's got plenty of biomass in the oases and coast. It's got tons of flat space to build, tons of early game resources. By far the easiest to traverse and to find the resources you're looking for. It's been the best in every category for tiers 1-4 for me.

Dune desert is good for experienced players, but not newer ones. It's hard to get reliable coal power set up because of the limited water in the region, and new players who don't now what to focus on would be 'on the clock' so to speak for burning through the available biomass and getting to at least coal power.
