_I still remember when I first watched this movie in my class when I was only a freshman. I never knew that until I watched this movie in class, and I fell in love with her life story. I obviously felt sad on the last scene where she gets shot by Yolanda. My sister died in a car accident years ago, at 22. No one but my dad was home when the cops showed up to the house to tell him. He had to break the news to my mom when she got home from the grocery store. Then I came home from my grocery store job and he had to tell me. Then when my older sister got there, he had to tell her. I get so sad that my dad had to tell all his loved ones of this tragedy. Breaks my heart.

The reason why it’s hard for Selena to stand up to her dad or remove him from her life is because in our culture , family means a lot. There is an honor to our parents that even if we disagree and go behind their backs, we still value their input. Because family is everything when your close. Selena ultimately would have died of a broken heart if she never saw her dad again. They had a bond even through the tough times. ❤
