Very happy to see this discussion occuring in the geosciences. I came across this paper on my own several months ago and as an independent scholar right now (left academia for private sector), I was looking for a group of people with which to discuss this. The problem is we're trying to solve universes paradigms with the knowledge that with the derived from earth... there's still a-lot of missing information. What I found interesting the the limitation Vopson mention regarding protons.

at around the 23 minute mark, is he talking about the one and zero as a binary two state because "null" is in superposition in this context perhaps? That's why it isn't a true three state system?

Alive is dual to not alive -- the Schrodinger's cat superposition. Being is dual to non being creates becoming -- Plato's cat. Thesis is dual to anti-thesis creates the converging thesis or synthesis -- Hegel's cat. Sine is dual to cosine or dual sine -- the word co means mutual and implies duality. The word superposition also implies at least two or duality! On is dual to off -- binary.

Very nice work Uwe Ehret. I am just wondering what is the physical interpretation of the difference between maximum observed complexity and theoretical maximum complexity (denoted by "Limited Complexity")@29.53. For example, can we interpret in terms of contributions of physical processes (such as baseflow, time of response etc.) or any variable that controls the long-term coevolution of catchment (for example aridity index)?
