Awesome thank you… can you make a video on how to repair a 2-3” fuselage tear or hole that went through?

Neat job. How did you fix the piano hinge to the metal sheet? I like the low profile - a rivet will not get the same results?

Usually 750 hrs plus @ 65$ shop time not including parts. Including engine overhaul I have seen them easily hit 90,000 and beyond

That's absurd for a J3. I guess I'll keep flying my perfectly fine, though a bit aged, Cub and we'll all be happy: Those shops will have their fabric and time on their hands and I'll have my money. @@robbiestaton604

Thanks for filming these videos. Helps a lot learning in advance how to lay a fabric. Even though it is a Sonerai that I will need to cover (metal wings) getting the general understanding on working with fabric helps with other places like rudders where similar techniques are used. Will go an EAA course first but watching you videos gives a jump start!

Once as a young man I used to race motocross and worked in a dealership that serviced and sold general and competition classed bikes. It was interesting how many people would come in and have an issue with one bike in the same class being 8lbs heavier than the one beside it. Despite the heavier one being faster, having a better power to weight ratio, suspension etc. So these people were making an issue of the 8lbs heavier bike while the customer would be 25lbs overweight. Now that I'm an older man and 30lbs overweight I know longer blame the extra coat of primer or paint.

@3:03 "There's no way I can show you how to paint. I been doing it for 25, 30 years and I still don't know how to paint" I literally laughed out loud. I'm exactly the same way. Been painting forever, it usually turns out okay but I still don't know how to paint and certainly couldn't tell somebody else how to do it. Subscribed 😆

Great video. I'm watching all your stuff with plans of making a "zeppelin" trailer body. Have you considered using an IR camera to look at the iron sole to see the hot spots? They have cheap ones that fit on smart phones.

I am building a 1928 Morgan three wheeler Aero which has a wood frame and is covered with fabric and then originally nitrate but I believe I am going to use Butyrate dope. I believe I will be able to use inexpensive Dacron or ceconite because it will not be flying. If you see this what are your thoughts on what I am trying to accomplish.

Thanks Robbie, I painted my first car (62 corvair) in 1968 after my brother fender bent it one Friday night. I remember when monocoat first came out around the same time the Beattles. Before we glues tissue paper down to balsa withe dope and Ambrose orange colored glue. Then on to airplanes and dopes and synthetic finishes. I always thought that a paint chemists nightmare would be "paint and seal this fabric on a dynamic structure." Wet edges rule, the landing flair, the gas welded puddle, eye to hand coordination is the mark of a blessed man.

What is the best way to remove paint from fabric in order to do a new paint job?
@airtechcoatings
@airtechcoatings Жыл бұрын
Sanding to rough it up so new paint holds. If old paint it peeling ,will not work. Recover time. Fabric no doubt still good. So only cosmetic . Repaint is most of time not a good idea.

Great advice. Just found your channel on a video from Experimental Aircraft Channel. Watched a couple of your videos and subscribed. Doing a little binge watching now. I understand why your videos are short and you cover all the info you can. Trying to cover and video would be next to impossible unless you had someone videoing for you. It's been many years since I helped my dad do covering jobs, but I remember having both hands pretty busy. Some of the first cover jobs were cotton, Irish linen, and later ones with Ceconite. Recent retired with over 45 years being A&P, but all in corporate aircraft. Your videos are great, and I can tell you speak from many years of experience. Keep up the great work.

Hello my friend at Airtech . I am building a vintage Morgan three wheeler and I want to cover it with cloth the way they did it from the factory. Fantastic video. I will have to find your website to order some glue or "dope" and fabric. I look forward to hearing back fro you. Thanks.

Polly tack is another system. And if you using that system you never use polytac on any tapes or double cover. Only on the adhesion to the structure. Our system uses the same glue throughout.

Wow, that's really nice. Do you still have it? I'm down in Dallas. I'd love to come up and see it or catch you at a fly in. I'm trying to decide between an 11 and an 18 to teach my daughter in. Never heard anyone say anything negative about Jay and that's something in this business. My Hatz is covered in Airtech and gets lots of compliments everywhere I go.
