You did it again, brought me to tears again! I love the arrangement, instrumentation, and harmonization. Wow, and Picardy third ending. We don’t have to be ashamed of this God you are playing and singing about. God demonstrates his own love towards us in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us.

I love Lloyd and Mary Kaufman! They were like a third set of grand parents to me and my siblings growing up. Many times they came and stayed at our home over night. They spent Christmas at least once and we spent a bit of time at their house in Ohio. Lloyd’s arrangements are fantastic, but it is really Lloyd and Mary as people that really makes them fantastic. In case they ever see this, love you Gramps and Gram!

I found this song in my of the hymnals at my church. It has a different verse in it. It has the first and third here followed by this different verse. It goes: And when from death I'm free, I'll sing on, I'll sing on And when from death I'm free, I'll sing on And when from death I'm free, I'll sing and joyful be And to eternity, I'll sing on, I'll sing And to eternity, I'll sing on. It is just lovely. The orchestra did a phenomenal job, and the choir sang like angels.

Why are you disappointed?
@butterflybeatles
@butterflybeatles Жыл бұрын
I am Catholic. The Mennonites are on the opposite end of the religious spectrum. Whether or not we agree on doctrinal matters, we all admire the way Mennonites live. Musical instruments seems to be a departure from that. Oh, I know -- I am making sweeping generalizations but that was my reaction to seeing the instruments. Plus, I am just not used to it. I listen to much Mennonite choral music and I have never seem them using instruments.@@YuriyAndSarahKravets

Thank you for your response, @butterflybeetles. I’m all for engaging in a meaningful discussion if you’re up for it. My first question would be what you mean by Mennonites being “on the opposite end of the religious spectrum”?
@butterflybeatles
@butterflybeatles Жыл бұрын
I don't know much about Mennonite theology so I will stick to what is visible. A Catholic church is normally full of art (I guess you could call it idolatry). On the other hand I have seen Mennonite concerts and weddings on KZfaq in the plainest of buildings with not one piece of decoration or something which appeals to the eyes. That is one reason why we can say that you represent the opposite end of the spectrum to Catholicism. @@YuriyAndSarahKravets
@YuriyAndSarahKravets
@YuriyAndSarahKravets Жыл бұрын
One of these distinctives of Mennonites is the common practice of reading the scriptures and trying to discern the heart of God on a matter. Then they try to ask right questions. Using that approach, I believe one of these right questions is “can God be glorified by the use of voices accompanied by musical instruments?” Scripture indicates in both the Old Testament (see Psalm 98) and the New (Ephesians 5 - “Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs…”) that the answer to that question is “yes.” That would be a scriptural approach, I believe. If we approach the question from a cultural perspective, that is where more controversy is bound to take place. I welcome your thoughts.
