My LOD Destroyer sliders just did this same thing. The kicker is theyre advertised and priced as an actual slider. So imagine my surprise after the first real hits and my tub is creased from the front fender flare to just behind the passenger front slider. Have Rustys waiting to be mounted.

You can buy a passenger intermediate shaft rebuild kit for under $400 or buy the shaft alone for under $100. Cut off the old axle, install the new shaft and you have a practically new front differential.

Did you figure out how to get it off!? Did you know they make an upgrade axle stub? Looking into this now

Still can’t get it off to this day. Tried everything i know. The fix i describe in this video is still holding up wonderfully with zero issues. My buddy works at a dealership and we did lots of research, couldn’t find any replacement parts. The service manual states to replace the whole axle if something like this happens. He said it is VERY common. They replace 2-3 axles a week on these 5th gen’s because of the same issue. If there is an aftermarket upgrade, i am not aware of it!

How much sway do you have on the road and does it make it dangerous steering
@dirthead1
@dirthead1 2 ай бұрын
It is definitely a lot more than with stock sway bar. Going 75-85 required more steering input but still felt okay in my opinion. You can always tighten it up when going on longer highway trips!

I feel your pain buddy. I had to swap the passenger side shaft on my 19 Ram and it was a nightmare. Fought with it all weekend before finally getting it off. A year later, I had the new boot fail. I just took it to the dealer bc I didn’t want to go through that again. They told me I had to replace the whole diff. I said no thanks. I found a way to replace just the boot itself, but that only lasted about 4 months. I’m going to try your method. Thanks for the info!

That's a great idea. I have 38's on beadlocks with a motobilt tire carrier (very similar to evo) and I've had tire wobble on the spare tire for 3 yrs. I wish I got an evo with powder coating on it. My motobilt tire carrier has rusted threw the powder coat I had professionally done.

Metalcloak is the way to go, for good but less $$ Apex. You want greasable tie rod ends, not “sealed”.

I just got the entire steering kit from Barnes, aluminum drag link/tie rod. Install was a breeze and it’s an absolute night and day difference in feedback and ride. Ironically, my passenger side boot did the same exact thing yours did, front part of the boot pulled up and I had a nice chunk of grease on the rod end. Nice to hear you haven’t had any issues with the rod ends though, that certainly put my anxiety to rest 🤘🏽 happy crawlin brother

I am curious about how you cut the old cv axle, I was thinking about doing the same thing, why did that not work?
@dirthead1
@dirthead1 4 ай бұрын
I tried cutting in a symmetrical line all around the stub shaft being careful not to hit the splines but i was getting into the splines and it still wasn’t budging. Have heard cutting works for some but i had no luck. Tried pb blaster, heat, huge sledge hammer, nothing worked. At this point i was so mad i was ready to just get it done. You can get used diff’s off of eBay for $400-$800 and if yours is as stuck as mine was, it is worth just replacing vs beating on it for hours

I’ve been considering using Nitto or Mickey Thompson, however, I have these on my Ram 1500 Hemi, and I have had a great experience with them. I tow a trailer a few times a month. I have around 50k in these, and they are still doing well! They will be going on my 2020 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited, same size as the Ram 35x12.50r20…swapping out my stock Jeep rims for 20x9s with a -12 offset. Shame, I really like the stock rims, they’re just too narrow. Fit fine on my stock Ram rims, and have a nice stance. These tires have been GREAT on road, dry, wet, snow…absolutely nothing to hate.

I currently am still on my stock 4.10s with 37's and I feel like I am lacking gusto when I climb and rock crawl. I dont want to lose highway drivability and not a lot of people out there running your set up, most people tell me 5.13 or 4.88 but that seems too much of a loss on daily use. (2dr JK, 3.8 MT). So my question is are you completely satisfied with offroad and on road drivability?

I have a 2021 gladiator and I’m looking at some steering issues. I will probably be going to the Apex steering upgrade and I’ll probably be looking all these other issues to do all of these companies have like how to videos or good instructions on how to get it done none of it looks particularly technical to me, but I don’t normally deal with these sorts of things. So do you feel a moderately skilled garage mechanic could do all of these things. Except for getting the realigned and such.

I have tried so many mud tires, Nitto, mickey thompson, yokohama Mt. I have to admit i was weary of buying these at first but they are the best mud tire i have owned. I think alot of mud tires use gimmicks to sale there tires, like a cool sidewall but that isnt the most imortant part of a tire
