This is so refreshing to watch and listen to. The energy and connectedness to the music and line, especially watching the violinst. Wow!

I would like this version of the song to be on Spotify or somewhere else. It's by far the best I've heard.

We did this at Nazareth Academy from 1994-96. We performed the whole Ceremony of Carols 5 times a Christmas.

I miss you, Mama. 😢 We should have sung this at your funeral. But then again, I won't be able to hold back my tears. I love you. Thank you for this, I needed this today.

I'm so happy I found this great recording! I'm playing the flute part with a choir tomorrow and I was pretty nervous, but listening to and practicing with this helped a lot! Thank you!

This was one of the first choral pieces I ever heard that made me cry at the first sounding chord. And the entire piece just continuously was moving. There are excellent choral pieces out there, they have bone chilling moments, and are gorgeous overall, but I still till this day have not found a piece more gorgeous and angelic as this. And as a Catholic, the text speaks ever deeper. And oh goodness your choir just sounds like angels truly saying “Rejoice! The Virgin may has been assumed into heaven!” I’m Proud of the college I go to and what our college accomplishes, but man, performances like this just take music to a new level. This isn’t music making, it’s music living, it’s speech, its embodiment of praise or of love or of some sort of meaning, or even no meaning, it simply is. I can’t wait to be a conductor one day, and I hope I will have a choir who can do this peace! BRAVO!!!!!!

I am listening to your performance here in Deventer, the Dutch town where Sweelinck was born. As a choir tenor, I shall be rehearsing and singing this psalm next Sunday in the very church where Sweelinck has been working. Probably a bit faster and less legato than your admirable rendering!

Levi Celerio the lyricist of this song claimed once during his interview that he drew inspiration of this song from Mothers who were members of Guerilla Movement during WWII against Japanese Imperial Forces...Mothers who would make their Children sleep before going to battle which mostly didn't came back home...how heartbreaking...
