Thanks for the video! I am About to tear my 1981 CB 900 down. Not sure what the complaints in the comments where about. I had no problem understanding anything you said. Must be a geographical thing. For example. I have a hard time understanding certain people from certain areas of Louisiana. 👍🏻😀

Hi, I see yor carbs hasn t accelerator fuel pump, mine, on a japan version CB 750 Custom Exclusive from 1981 has not that pump on carb #2, too, mine are VB52, and had some problems with main jet ( 102, then installed 75) and very hard to start on cold climate after 2 or 3 days stopped. no air leaks, aircutoff diafragms and all orings replaced. it seems during stop 1 or 2 plugs, get oil deposit, any comments about Jets an cold satarting? txs in advance, Alex

Its been several years since i sold this bike, but are you running factory exhaust with the factory air intake box or are you trying to run pods or a non standard exhaust? First thing I'd advise trying is to go back as close to factory as you can, including for all jets.

I’m currently having an issue with these exact carbs. When I press up on the choke cable lever like what you’re doing in this video. They neither open or close. Everything appears to be in the right order. I just got the bike recently and took the carbs off to clean them. I didn’t disassemble them so I did not have to reassemble the springs or anything. It’s weird tho. Randomly when I press the lever up and down they will work and then they won’t work at all when I started putting the rail back on. What could be my issue ? I’ll try and get a video to you soon but everything appears to be exactly like all the pictures i see online.

I sold that bike years ago, but from what I remember, things could be too tight and that would prevent them from opening correctly. I recommend you ask on either the vintage and classic hondas nabble forum or the cb750c.com forum. Some very knowledgeable people there.

It's easier to get the throttle cables off if you slide the carbs out from the other side.

The bolt thingy you turn is the Rotor. It’s the bikes charging system and the thingy hanging down is your stator. When the motor spins, it turns the rotor making contact with little brushes housed inside the stator cover generating AC volts. Your rectifier converts the AC to DC to keep your 12VDC battery charged. Hence the Regulator/Rectifier. Awesome stuff. Checking the valve lash and replacing shims on these are easy peasy compared to other bikes. 👍🏻

great vid saved me alot of frustration especially with the tip to tuck the air ducts back into the airbox. tip for everyone else don't just yank the breather tube off that goes into the gearbox on the left side and if you do you should be able to get it back on without tearing off the oil pump cover I learned this the hard way.

Are you using the stock airbox and exhaust or do you have pods and a four into one/two? I just added a four into one along with pods that have been on the bike for a while and am wondering if the jets you listed in the description are on the same setup I have. My bike is the same year but a CB750c. Thanks.

good vid Simon, just too bad you ended it without actually SHOWING the shim coming out, OR explaining the use of the chart for selecting and replacing the proper SIZE shim... but a good vid, need more people doing this (DOHC) motor. ~ps. its not a wise idea to use a magnet on the shims in case they become magnetized and attract metal fragments :(

Hey Simon, great video! I am going through this process on my 1981 CB750 Custom as well. I have seen many people saying that .005 inches is optimum but when I look at the service manual, it suggests .003 in. is optimum with -.001 in and +.002 in. As .005 does fall in the high range, what is the reasoning for going to the high end of this spec? It is causing me probably too much anxiety but I was just wondering if knew the reasoning/advantage to going to .005 in? Thanks!

You should order some new ones. Mine were like that at first before I ordered new ones. You likely already have a vacuum leak. To get them off you're going to need more force, and you might need to cut them/weaken them so they'll break instead of your carbs when you pry them off. They will likely break apart in chunks. I had to spend about a half hour cleaning the baked on old ones off of the engine before I could put the new ones on.

I am 62 and have been fooling with these CBs for a long time, what I do when the boots are hard like that, you must know that they inject plasticize in them when they are new to make and keep them soft enough to work with, so silicon contains plasticize in it, take the boots and clean them with pine-sol, dry them and put them in a plastic zip lock bag, (good seal) spray them well with silicon several times and seal them in the bag, its the gases that refresh them enough with the ability to soften them up, the longer you do this process the better they get,

Great video very helpful. So, for example with the one that was too tight, you add a thicker shim to create more clearance? And vice versa for the sloppy one? Also when doing this do you need to put in a new valve cover gasket and bolt seals? Thanks.
@TheSeestheday
@TheSeestheday 9 жыл бұрын
rodneypopper666 thicker shims create less clearance. The shims are filling a gap.You may or may not need a new valve cover gasket and bolt seals. If they are in good shape you can re-use them.One thing I would recommend, is that you get a genuine Honda valve cover gasket. I've had trouble with aftermarket ones leaking.
