A very lucky lady. Obviously a strong willed lady and a good swimmer - she didn't panic and had the energy to scream for help which I find remarkable (maybe she had not been in teh water too long). I hope she made a full recovery. That was so scarey and they did a great job getting her on board with what they had - that was a brave man who jumped in to tow her round. Any more infor on who she was and how she got there?

The name of New Zealand is New Zealand. There has been no legislation or referendum to change the name of the country to anything else. I've been subscribed to your channel for quite a considerable period of time and will remain so. So welcome to New Zealand and hope you enjoy your stay and can finally get all those annoying repairs done.. We are a sailing nation and sailing ambassadors to the world.
@kiwiwifi3 күн бұрын
Nitpicker! You can call it whatever you want. What we do know is that it was named Aotearoa well before any legislation. It was named Neu Zealand by a Dutchman who spent less than 6 days here.
@MotherShipAdrift3 күн бұрын
Thankyou for your welcome , we absolutely love New Zealand , especially the people we met . I have only really been referring to it as New Zealand and then I noticed someone called it by 'Aotearoa' so I thought I ought to include that too....trying to keep everyone happy ;)

Too bad your food was stolen by robbers ...I mean so called "authorities". Why do cruisers put up with it? They should boycott sailing to that country and all countries that treat you that way.! No human has a right to steal from another. Why do we put up with politicians who say that some humans CAN steal and or control the lives of others? We all have a right to travel and we shouldn't put up with abuse in the process.

Can you explain the reasons for all the bow poles? Did Amel require that arrangement due to dismasting disasters of sm when only using 1 pole to the mast....

@MotherShipAdrift7 күн бұрын
Hello John , thanks goodness for duct tape . I have been meaning to tell you that I am so far behind with the videos , but always trying to catch up . We are now in Indonesia but I refuse to miss out the story from NZ because we had such an incredible time , it was some of our favourite places for the people and the countryside . If you don’t mind the videos being so far behind real time then I hope you will keep watching and enjoying all the videos we have coming up .

Great videography and content mix. The water sampling survey is interesting. I guess you covered this a long while ago, but why does your Amel(?) have such big, solid aluminium stays on the main mast coming out at head level to the cap shrouds and diagnols down to the deck?
@FranklinGray10 күн бұрын
I was wondering that too. My guess is that they have 2 poles and maybe one is Whisker pole and one Spin pole and that is their way of storing them when not in use. The advantage of doing so give them something to hold onto when going forward.
@MotherShipAdrift7 күн бұрын
Those two poles are the whisker poles which the main poles attach to
@MotherShipAdrift7 күн бұрын
Yea the whisker poles , to be honest I am not sure why they have that actual set up but we use the poles a lot for our Genoa when the wind is light mainly

A very responsible approach, unlike far too many KZfaqrs. staying in the islands for cyclone season is never a good decision. It's only a week to NZ. I have known a few people who have lost their boats in Fiji during cyclones. An unattended boat in a cyclone pit is an invitation to mould, rats & insects. I always leave at the BEGINNING of the high: I end up motoring through the middle of the high for a day or two, but importantly I get there before the cold front which is key. I have done that trip many times delivering yachts - so far I haven't had a bad trip south. It's also almost the only trip where I will motor as soon as the speed drops - beating the south wind to NZ is the focus.

Thats very interesting....you will see from the videos that follow that we had a very similar experience
