And this is why I'm anti-christian. It's not doing your best to make the world a better place that gets you in Heaven, it's believing that God exists (something that is out of your control). Honestly, after reading this passage, I can't believe you don't at least start questioning what you've been taught.
@coyboy93
@coyboy93 Ай бұрын
You are half right, my friend. It is the belief and trust in Jesus Christ that saves us from eternal damnation because NONE of us are capable of doing it ourselves. However, to say that the Christian faith does nothing to make the world a better place is inaccurate. If a person believes in Christ and trusts the work that Christ did for us, then that person will keep His commandments. Jesus says that the greatest of the commandments are to love the Lord God with all your heart and to love your neighbor as yourself. If more people lived their lives with those principles in mind, I believe the world would indeed be a better place.

I'm sorry to hear of your conclusion "this is why I'm anti-Christian". I hadn't heard anyone try to argue FOR working your way into heaven as being a better system. I'm not seeing the connection to that causing us to question what we've been taught. Is there something else behind these comments? What would be the standard there if it was a requirement to "do your best to make the world a better place that gets you in Heaven"? And better according to whom? Would it be subjective? Emphasis on YOUR BEST? Should it be an objective standard, like feed the homeless x amount of times? What about the idea that we fall short of God's glory and all have a problem that makes the world a tough place (Rom.3.23)? What about the justice of sin and reconciliation? What about God's plans for a better world, which include at this point, His people following Him to do the good works He has planned for us from the beginning? Historically, the church has been the source of many of the world's great goods: hospitals, schools, orphanages, feeding the hungry, etc.

@@paxchristianchurch hey there. I like that you're responding to comments. So I just wanted to ask why you didn't respond to the point regarding the fact that much of what we are convinced by is out of our control. Sure, we can control how introspective we are, but we can't just will ourselves to be convinced of something that we don't actually think is true. A person's religious beliefs are largely dependent on where they are born. If a friend of yours told you they had a hundred billion dollars in their pocket all just for you, but provided no evidence for it, you'd probably not believe. No matter how good the news is, you probably wouldn't believe. And you wouldn't be able to just "choose" to believe. So, with God, if you're genuinely unconvinced, you're just going to hell, I guess. Why? Because God designed us to use reason, and because He chose not to interact with the universe in any empirical manner? Requiring belief in something for which there is no substantial evidence, in order to achieve eternal life, seems like the will of a very cruel God.

@@coyboy93 In any large organization, you'll have people that improve the world just as you'll have people that'll ruin the organization's reputation. I believe in Christians that make a better place. In fact, I know some that give Christianity a good name. I also know a few who preach that those who don't believe in the one true God will go to Hell where they will be burned and tortured forever, and passages like these that explain that if you believe in Jesus (something that you have no control over), then you'll get into Heaven. I believe that Christians aren't the only people that are capable of doing good, and in fact, some are just as capable of doing evil, and I think it should be our actions rather than our belief systems that should be judged when we stand at the pearly gates.

Dang. That's a harsh statement. The Pharisees said stuff like that about Jesus all the time. But let's try to have some grace and see if you said anything true or helpful: "This man is a demon in the flesh." - For preaching Jesus and faith in Him leading to salvation? Not sure that's how demons work... "I can almost guarantee that this man is gay." - That's a weird ad hominem attack. Married to a woman for over 18 years, so that's a pretty solid testimony against that idea. "And I can guarantee you that this man is not reading his Strong's concordance to help him interpret scripture." - What part do you think is interpreted incorrectly that a Strong's concordance would correct? There were exactly zero words that should be interpreted differently according to the Strong's. "If you're not reading a Strong's concordance to help you understand scripture that you are not learning anything in fact you are going to probably be going to hell" - That's just silly. In fact, you can get really weird if you spend too much time on particular word studies. You tend to lose the forest for the trees. AND, there is definitely no extrabiblical resource required for salvation. The Word of God alone is sufficient. In fact, you don't even have to know the whole Bible (but we highly recommend it and have a daily reading plan for those who want to get to know God's word better). All that is required is to believe in Jesus as Lord. That's according to Jesus himself, and specifically laid out by Paul in Romans 10. Check the Strong's. It will confirm that interpretation. :)

The Old Testament writer's never planned on the messiah being a God after he died instead of rulings as king And forfilling prophecy. The messiah wasn't even supposed to be a profit. But today the failed profit is GOD.
@paxchristianchurch
@paxchristianchurch Ай бұрын
Hey thanks for commenting! You’re right, he was never to become a god after he died. The Messiah IS God. (Philippians 2:5-11) Isaiah 9:6 is one of the many OT examples of the deity of the Messiah to come. From before birth, he is God. He does rule as king, as prophesied, but as he tells the Roman governor Pilate, his kingdom is not of this world (Matthew 27:11; John 18:33-38). Jesus did fulfill hundreds of messianic prophecies. And he accomplished the work he came to do, hence the final statement on the cross: “it is finished” (John 19:30). Jesus is not a failed prophet, but the victorious Lamb of God. He is high priest forever and lives eternally on the throne and will one day bring about the restoration of all creation and establish His kingdom here forever.

Hi! Thanks for commenting. Not sure what you mean... you're not sure what's meant by "gave his own son"? Is that related to having a bad weekend? or is that a different comment/thought? "Gave his only son" is about God the Father giving His Son (Jesus) to the world as a human (God in flesh/incarnate) to fully take the place of humanity in death as well as fully make the payment for sin as God. Hope that helps?

@@paxchristianchurch sort of makes sense. Let's see if I can sum it up and tell me if I have it right. Jesus was god in human form who sacrificed himself to himself to pay a debt that he could clear. God died( but didn't die) for a few days and then came back
@paxchristianchurch
@paxchristianchurch Ай бұрын
@@fitnessteacher1845 No. That's not it. And while it seems that you are being insincere in your response, I will still point this out. Jesus is God from the beginning. Humanity is created in God's image to be in relationship with him. Humanity chooses their own way and rejects God. This creates a rift of sin and corruption of creation leading to death. As sin brings death, the payment for sin is death. From early times in Genesis, but specifically laid out in the Torah, sin must be atoned for with death. This points to Jesus, God from the beginning, who comes in human form to be our substitutionary atonement, taking the penalty for ALL sin by taking our place in death. Where one human death can normally only pay for one sin, Jesus being God in flesh pays for all sin with his death. After fully experiencing and embracing death for three days, Jesus rises from the dead, showing the payment is "cleared"/paid in full. AND that his victory over death is complete. The justice of God and grace of God are both satisfied in this act of death and resurrection. It was more than "a bad weekend". And I believe you know that that description is a pale mockery of the Christian belief and not an accurate representation. Please consider the scriptural truths we've laid out here.

@@paxchristianchurch so god came down to his creations died (which for an eternal being isn't possible) and then god stopped being in flesh form then started again. Tbh it's not even a bad weekend it's barely a blip. Your comment above doesn't actually address why it isn't a bad weekend it just says ain't jesus great. Why isn't it a bad weekend. I am sincere in this question as the idea of an 'all-powerful being' suffering by his own hand is somehow solving a problem he caused baffles me as something to view as rational to believe.

@@paxchristianchurch so prior to jesus if you sinned you died? Are Adam and Eve not in heaven then? They sinned but the punishment existed by that point so death was the penalty for sin. If they are in heaven then sin has no consequence in terms of jesus coming in and taking the penalty away.
