@@S1K2000 I love the place, it is just annoying to see the massive builders charging people fortunes to build homes that are sub standard and the QBCC make it so hard for small trades to get licenced to build houses, the big company’s have no competition and just blatantly rip people off. You can work 3-4 days a week here and live very comfortably

I am from the UK and have been living on the Sunshine Coast for 15 years, great place to live, but like you are finding out the QBCC (who are really a glorified insurance company with way too much power) control everything, I believe they were formed in the early 1990's and you can do jobs up to $3,300 (including labour & materials) without a licence but we are now in 2024 and that amount has never been increased because they don't get any benefit from it going up they would miss out on charging an insurance fee, for each building job that is done. In the early part of my career I was a bench joiner and we would make anything that the client wanted, Stairs, Bars & Back fittings (for pubs) kitchens, doors & windows etc. but here you get companies that just do one part of the full trade I learnt. I think the building industry in Australia is over regulated, in the UK I progressed with my trade background and had my own Construction Company building Nursing Homes all over the UK, I build a 55 Bed in Camberwell Green with a steel frame over 5 stories, but I wouldn't have been allowed to do that in Australia without a special licence (and qualification), you can't even do your own drainage a plumber with a licence needs to do it. My daughter recently built a new house, I asked the plumber if they would be doing a water test using plugs at the end of the runs before connecting the system to the main sewer, this would be what the building inspector from building control would want to see in the UK, (you would normally leave the water in the pipes for 24 hours) he would make a return visit to see if the level had fallen. The plumber said yes, but whoever passed it can't have tested the system, because I excavated in front of the property to install a French drain and found a length of pipe with a split in it which we had the repair the soil was wet all the way around it, so how would that have passed a water test?

so you are looking at a small step down or rebate the jumpform people put into the slab at the door so the lift guys can put in their doors. it was probably them or the builder who threw a bit of rough concrete in there to allow the tilers ( probably , as it’s a foyer) to ardit without having to scabble the concrete next to the finished lift door. pretty typical for someone to sneer at something they don’t understand. willing to bet your work has its ups and downs too mate

I have over 10 years worth of work with concrete shuttering and pouring lift shafts on apartments was included, I’m not sure what bs you are talking about scrabbling for tilers because they generally tile over a float finish. Stop justifying shit work it’s awful and needs breaking out.

the point is … so what? finish guys will fix that in about a minute. i’ve been a formworker working on sydney high rise since 1993. and yes i’ve worked on pro build sites. you aren’t standing on any moral high ground there buddy. oh while i’m at it the reason the industry is having issues with structure failure is that building companies are employing engineers and certifiers and then telling them what to do. if you do know what you are doing you know that. so why don’t you do something on that? perhaps this rebate ( i think they will drop a tile at the threshold actually and the carpet square around it) it’s view worthy but it’s a nothing thing.

So relieved to see someone calling out how pathetic many builders are in Australia. We're a long way behind and there's a very poor culture and attitude in many places. However, this is a particularly poor example. There are respectable, high quality builders out there. Also, pretty sure vibrating is becoming quite common.
@ProBuildCarpenter

Vibrating is mandatory I’m shocked how little it gets done each honeycomb is a weak spot god knows how many are in the slab that can’t be seen, it’s just crap that the big company’s are getting away with this and the smaller guys that want to build and give good value and high quality work are made to jump through hoops. QBCC needs a shake up they are causing this and the hyper inflated home prices by not letting smaller builders get into the game. Thanks for watching and commenting ✌🏻
