Swimming pools should be inside the compounds and it should be tarmac roads outside. It’s 2024. The state of those roads is embarrassing. I remember driving in a taxi, in the Gambia. Felt like there was an earthquake going on. FIX UP DEM ROADS Bommbo clarrrrrrt.

AI's take on FGM: The exact origin of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is shrouded in mystery, but there are some theories based on historical accounts and practices: Ancient Egypt: Some evidence points to ancient Egypt along the Nile Valley as a possible source. Writings from Greek historians and geographers mention practices resembling FGM in the region. There's also a mention of "Pharaonic circumcision" in Sudan, hinting at a connection. Other regions: The practice might have originated elsewhere, with the Red Sea coast being another possibility. The geographical spread of FGM today suggests a possible starting point in that area. Unclear motives: The reasons behind the practice's origin are also unclear. Some theories suggest controlling female sexuality, ensuring virginity before marriage, or marking a rite of passage. Here are some resources for further reading: World Health Organization: Female genital mutilation - World Health Organization (WHO): www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/female-genital-mutilation FGM/C Research Initiative: What are the origins and reasons for FGM? | FGM/C Research Initiative: med.virginia.edu/family-medicine/wp-content/uploads/sites/285/2017/01/Llamas-Paper.pdf Sources didattica.unibocconi.it/mypage/dwload.php?nomefile=CornoLaFerraraVoena_dec2020_red20210902133048.pdf profile picture what was the justification behind FGM Show drafts There is no valid justification for FGM, but there are several reasons given to try and explain why it's practiced: Cultural reasons: In some cultures, FGM is seen as a rite of passage into womanhood or a way to prepare a girl for marriage. It can be tied to ideas of beauty or cleanliness. Social pressure: FGM can be pressured by the community. Families may feel obligated to continue the practice so their daughters are accepted within society. Controlling sexuality: A common justification is that FGM controls a girl's sexuality, ensuring virginity before marriage and fidelity afterward. This is based on the false belief that female genitalia are inherently sexual and need to be controlled. Religious misconceptions: Though no major religion mandates FGM, some use religious texts to justify it. Religious leaders can play a role in ending the practice by clarifying its absence in religious requirements. It's important to remember that these are justifications, not reasons. FGM is a harmful practice with no medical benefits, and international organizations are working to end it

Imam Leigh is right. Where was imam Fatty when Jammeh introduced the ban on FGM? Not a word he said at the time. Imam Fatty supported and encouraged Jammeh during his 20+ years of tyranny. He has no credibility to preach to Gambians.
