Glad I found a new canoe trip channel to watch. Nice work. Inspire me. I am doing my first back country trip in a long time, in Sept down the French river. Will work on Algonquin next year. That H2O looks nice and light. I picked up the Special edition Tuff Stuff Prospector. Nice canoe, a little heavy at 56 pounds, but manageable, don't know how manageable on a 2k portage.

Looks delicious Christina 😋. I do not own a set of pie irons myself, but I have camped with people who have them and they are definitely fun to make pizza pies and s'mores pies for sure😊. I like the little stepped pattern that yours puts on the bread. It's one of those little touches that makes it fun 😁.

Loved doing those when our kids were young! We made burritos with two tortillas, and filled them with refried beans and taco meat. I've also made peanut butter jelly sandwiches, and of course, grilled cheese. Fun at camp! I'll have to try your apple marshmallow, sounds great!

My gramdma used to make cherry pies when I was a kid. My grandparents camped often. It was such a treat! Bread, butter, pie filling, and brown sugar. The pie maker she used was round. You would just cut off the bread around the edges. I have a square one like yours. Grilled cheese is good too! 🍷

Thank you for this video!! I can find 900 videos on what new gear rich ultralight backpackers put in their bag but rarely do I find videos to compare my pack with what's in experienced solo portage camper's bags. Simply being a Canadian woman alters what's in the pack vs videos I've seen from like some dude in Michigan going 'canoe camping'. This was so valuable, thank you CamperChristina and RileyOutside! I never did a portage beyond the safe embrace (and crowds) of Algonquin but CamperChristina slowly sold me on Temagami, I'm headed there in August for 3-4 days and I hope to not see a soul lol. Thank you so much for this video!

@CamperChristina10 күн бұрын
In the USA you can get them at Walmart or pretty much anywhere. In Canada I have been able to find them at Walmart recently and Metro. Not sure if you can locate them at other grocery stores like independent or Zehrs, maybe depending on where you are? In the USA they have all different flavours and different kinds. In Canada, you can usually find the plain tuna and sometimes ranch.

Thanks for this video. As a retired person I've had the advantage of doing longer trips but this year I may not get out at all. For me five nights seems to have been the perfect length of stay. I like to spend my time reading and writing and I've noticed after checking my past journals that my writing doesn't really get good until the fourth day. And that pattern has been consistent over the years. I am thinking that I don't fully adjust to the bush life (so that it feels like home) until the fourth day.

Awesome video Christina and so good to see that you ladies made the most of the camping experience despite forgetting some things 🥰. I have so far tentatively planned my Algonquin trip for the end of September at Canisbay Lake for car camping and I cannot wait ❤️🏕️🌳. Looking to rent a canoe from The Portage Outpost to paddle around the lake and check out some of the paddle-in sites too 😊. Between your course (thank you again 🥰) and talking with another friend, who just does backcountry, I really do want to get out there so much because I think I am going to fall in love with it 🥰.

Very nice video. I was formerly a camper and staff member at Northwoods Camp and also at Keewaydin. When I go to Temagami I usually stay at Finlayson Point Provincial Park across from the seaplane base at Lakeland Airways.

@@CamperChristina You do well to point out explicitly how difficult some of the portages are. I spent five full seasons at two different camps and have paddled at least 3,000 miles in northern Ontario all the way up to Moose Factory on James Bay. I also did one trip across Lake Temiskaming into Quebec back in 1970 which was quite different in some ways since it wasn’t so isolated as some of the Temagami back-country. If and when I go back I’d like to visit Hap Wilson’s camp. I have a copy of his coffee table book about his marathon Manitoba trip. I’ve read several of Grey Owl’s books. The owner of Camp Keewaydin told me that Grey Owl worked for Keewaydin as well, which I got a kick out of. So I”m dating myself because Keewaydin is no longer privately owned. Northwoods Camp was shuttered in 1974 and Crofut Island there was taken over by the Crofut family which had made the original land donation of their two islands to the Cleveland YMCA back in the mid 1930s.

... Short trips can be the best Natures medicine .... Although a two day one night leaves me lacking something .... I find a three day two night getaway to be the ticket .... R&R and not feel rushed ... ... Always helps to pack with a list ,, too easy to put something aside and not realize it until it's too late .... But as you did ,, most things can be improvised ... Stay Safe ...
