I needed organist Steve's help to get back in tune again. I lost my orientation after detuning my shamisen.

i am a little tardy to the party but i still wanted to comment and say that one of the messages that resonated with me is that of recognizing all aspects of yourself, including the desire, anger, and ignorance but also recognizing that that isnt all you are. i feel the love and calm of Amida Buddha whenever I chant the nembutsu and im so glad that I found the teachings of Shinran Shonin, the sangha in oakland (and around the world0 , and personally meeting Rev. Bridge :) thank you and happy birthday Shinran Shonin!
I was In an online class all weekend and enjoyed learning about Shan-Tao And the five practices. And particularly the importance of nembutsu. As a new member I also appreciate learning about the various church organizations. Thank you !

Never wise to assume that an author is miserable if you haven't finished the book. Just sayin'.
@gyokyo3 Жыл бұрын
Good point - I thought I back-tracked on that. I'm up to about 1997 in the book and I feel like he's expressing a lot of misery, but I don't want to be judgmental. My favorite parts are where he gets insights into what's going on - I certainly hope he's happy now! OK, back to reading the book...

Thank you Rev Bridge. Although I find all of your sermons engaging and insightful, this is one of my favorites. I appreciate the guidance on remembering Buddhist values, how one may try to live them, and the Jodo Shinshu way of trying to live Buddhist values even though we can’t really. I will continue to try to even though the 3 poisons are in me. Thank you for normalizing this so we can all still try without feeling like failures. It’s in the trying and entrusting. Hopefully I am understanding your message correctly.
