So I ordered the good paper, yay, thanks for the tip! And I also ordered the pastel markers that you made a video on. My problem is, I sketched a flower and got out my alcohol markers to practice, I was using the light, color, yellow,and the pencil mark smeared all in with the alcohol marker. What was I doing wrong please?
@KarenCampbellDRAWS3 күн бұрын
@@jeanmayo4076 you need to erase the graphite. It will absolutely smear. Yep! So my process is (1) draw in pencil (2) outline with watersoluble or pigment liner (3) erase graphite (4) color with markers. That will fix it! 💙💙💙

Thank you so much for the info on paper for markers . Is it the same with permanent marker use too? And water markers.? Coz when I am using certain papers it is either taking up the fibres or it is streaky too. And was wondering what paper to use. So thank you so much for this , now I know what to use. 😊
@KarenCampbellDRAWS5 күн бұрын
@@monicalacroix8269 100% Water markers should only be used on watercolor paper. Permanent markers can mean a lot of things but as long as they pigment and NOT alcohol based you can use any paper. So glad you found this helpful!

Marker (maybe) specific question- i purchased faber-castell skin/portrait pitt pens set because -well, watching you- I’ve found that it works different from alcohol markers bc it’s ink 🖋️ (i guess). Can you show/test/point to a tutorial of how to using the ink pens with alcohol markers and/or pencils? PS: I’m a wonder bundle member if this is a question better for mixed media or drawing. PSS: i have Sanjoki markers (120) and a small (24 maybe )skin tone ohuhu set but I like the color and pigment from the pitt pens more. A lot of the ohuhu seem dried-up or putting questionable ink on the page. However, i find the alcohol doesn’t really mix with the ink, especially once it’s dried. Goals!?! Suddenly this is sounding very much like a mixed media question. Apologies.
@KarenCampbellDRAWS5 күн бұрын
Hi!! Yes! This IS a super mixed media question and that’s totally fine (luckily I’m also a mixed media artist so I got you!!). So alcohol ink is really funky. You can mix it with any other kinds of inks. I have a whole video on this but let’s just suffice it to say they don’t play well with others. They are just not to be used in any mixed media project unless they are the bottom most layer and the top layers are limited to color pencils, pastels or fine liners on top. Pitt pens are a totally different animal. You can use them on or under most anything!! Check out the Stage 0-8 classrooms in the Mixed media society to learn more about layering supplies - and classroom 7 is all dedicated to Pitt Pens! They are wonderful. I how that helps point you in the right direction!! 💜💜💜💜

Question: does putting color pencil down first help and/or create a layer to blend markers on? I know you primarily use markers but… when coloring in books with cheap paper its hard have depth without ruining the paper.
@KarenCampbellDRAWS5 күн бұрын
Hi! Nope nope. Alcohol markers are brats and they only like to be the only child! 🤣 don’t put them over anything. They just don’t and won’t get along! They only like a non-porous surface (or close to as possible with paper). Period. Or they act like brats and look TERRIBLE!! lol
@cherylclaviter63985 күн бұрын
This was fantastic. I have a ton of alcohol markers and just don’t use them because of this. Now I can’t afford the Copic so most of mine are the Ohuhu markers. Thank you so much 💕💕

I use Hammermill and Ohuhu’s marker pad and am now trying out their new bleedproof paper, which is similar to the Rendr, Canson The Wall and Sketchmarker pad paper. Most people will not like the bleedproof paper because of the grey cast, but it heavier than regular marker paper and I can use both sides. Thank you for demoing the different papers. Keep creating 💛💙💜

Copics. But I also use Ohuhu and ArtBeek. Honestly ink is the same in all - it truly is a paper thing with markers so don’t waste money on a $9 Copic when you can have a $1 Ohuhu or 50 cent ArtBeek 🙌

I loved this video. Looking through all the comments so far, I guess just the sound of the pens on the paper is not for everyone, I didn't mind it though. If I were watching it through a migraine, luckily I don't have one right now lol, I think I actually would prefer this over a video with music or talking. For me, the music or talking causes too much stimuli when I have a migraine and I have to turn the sound way down or off, this video would be relaxing. Thank you for sharing this video, and I think you should do more of them.
