My boy Archie is the best rooster I could have asked for. He is always such a gentleman to his ladies, pulling food down from hard to reach places for them, making sure any young cockerels are not getting too over friendly with the girls, and keeping them all safe. When we had the eclipse back in the spring, he gathered them all up and herded them back to the coop in the sudden darkness!

Scrambled eggs and beef/pork/chicken mixed hotdogs are a hens favorite treat. 😂 I have a clip on my channel of a couple hens and some hotdogs. Always a risk trying to film it. Nearly lost me finger! lol not really but one hen did chomp down on my finger tho.

Very fair points here! Although I believe the best method for taming a roo is to just stand there when he approaches. Always wear protective gear on your legs, just incase, but holding your ground without challenging back was the best method I found for gaining a roosters trust.

See I've come to understand there's just like, there's an energy to the people who can teach a rooster manners in an afternoon. It's not about methods, it's about madness tbh. They can sense the crazy--- (I'm making fun of myself here, tbc)

They do increase production, but are not cost effective at commercial level. The only best dewormer is ACV(apple cider vinegar) 30ml/litre for 3 days, after that 30 to 60gms of turmeric powder for 5 days to fix any bloody poop. Crushed charcoal edible size beside them all the time will keep the doctor away.

i love reading everyone's rooster stories. i had a rooster named david and hes probably going on 8 or 9 years old now. hes such a sweetie and always calls over the hens for a snack he finds (which sometimes is just a strange rock or plastic) but only eats after they do. he rasied a son who ended up attacking him twice and he made a shocking recovery both times. his spurs are huge but hes the most gentle rooster ive ever met 💜

I've had over 250 chickens in my life time and I've found that Rhode island reds are the worst about being aggressive, I've had probably 10 or 15 RIR (Rhode island red) roosters and about 95% were mean so I'd stear clear of those

We had a rooster that was rarely handled and raised in our flock. He was wonderful for a long time. But after a couple years the hens started rejecting him and he would be mean to them. So we traded him to a friend with chickens. The friend reports that our rooster is amazing and is great with the new hens. A mean rooster can be caught early and just found a new flock. Sometimes divorce is a good option when aggression is caught early! Eta: we considered eating him, but we traded him for a hen which was worth more than a couple meals for us.
