To me the Vstar 1100 was a good platform. Like you said, its not too big but not too small, not too little power but not too much power... its the perfect median cruiser. I regret selling mine at times, so much so I am looking to get another one. One big thing people can do for cheap that really wakes up the bike is pod filters and rejet, you can buy a full "Chubby kit" which is popular that includes all needed items. After adding that the power gains were very noticeable and help push bike along better especially with my larger than average self.

I bought a 1981 CB750 Custom when I was 16 back in 1990. Had 26,--- on it and Paid $1800 for it. LOVED IT! Only dumped it one time due to the city just laying FRESH Gravel on the highway and I was making a turn but as slow as I could. Rear Tire slipped. Bent the handlebar. Was 50yrds from work where the boss man took a torch and bend it back into shape. Had it 9yrs.. Missed it. Traded it for a R/V and got $2500 for it. 2020 and get the Stimulate Check.. Found Another, Same year, Same Backrest and Luggage Rack Plus a Front Cowl in NEW Shape but not attached and some other random pieces. $2200... Had 27,--- on it. Started Right Up and Sounded Good. Got it home and Rode it 4 times before it went to Shit on me.. Guy got it running Just Enough to Sell it.. 2024. Got it back from the Shop and cost AROUND $5,000 to Rebuild the engine. Still needs Minor work done to it like, Exhaust that Leaks at head, Lower End gone through, Struts and Shocks and other Minor Stuff. Had to have New Tires, Breaks and Cylinder, Seat, Chain and other Minor Stuff. Is Ridable and has less than 400m on it at time of posting this. Exhaust is missing the Single Hole Option and has the Multi Hole One or Original Owner Messed around with them. My Original One had the Single Hole Ones. So it's Louder than my Original One. Same Blue Color as my First. Has a Shield in front of the Gauges that helps aim air away from my face/head so I Can Wear a Friction/Elastic Fit Baseball Cap while doing 50mph. Dumped this one while Parked because my Shoelace got caught on the Kickstand and just laid it down trying to get it untangled. Couple of guys just got done pulling in at the Gas Station it happened at and helped me get it off my leg. We Laughed. Did Snap the Clutch Lever but was still usable. Needs a Good Cleaning. Gas Tank Interior could use one also but is clean enough to use.. Will be putting 100% Gas in it and Not the 10-15% stuff. May Cost more but worth it.. NOT Getting Rid of this One.. Is A Little Harder now getting On and Off at my age. Legs don't like to go that high anymore. Wish Idiots would STOP Turning them into Cafe Racers. Not sure if I want to put the Color Matching Cowl on or not. Would make it look more like a Gold Wing. But was told I would get worse Gas Millage. I am getting about 40mpg and even Saw 50mpg. Filling up every 100miles to help keep Tank Clean and Gas Fresh. May cost ( at time of posting this ) $4.00 a Gallon and not the $3.25 of the 10-15% but Worth it. Peace and Enjoy!

regarding the comms units: 1) the additional pannel on the other side is for the other control unit for the 50B comms systems which comes with SENA's mesh. 2) You can buy adapters that click in to the slot on the left side you then attach your cardo too. This makes for a seamless design which I really like, especially with a packtalk slim (the slim doesnt fit rpha 71 sadly without modifying it)
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures2 ай бұрын
Thanks. Do you have a link for that adapter plate?
@teodor1032 ай бұрын
@@TimsMotorcycleAdventures Idk why but my comment was not added, I'll try again. I have found such plates on a phillipinian website, these are 3d printed. I might have jumped the gun too soon with stating "you can buy" them. I guess that since rpha 71 is quite new the product is not in demand yet. Cardo makes dedicated plates for shoei gt-air 2 and nxr 2 helmets, some ppl are making those for Logan helmets etc. I think that it will take some time before there will be ones available for RPHA71 However, if you have a friend with 3d printer or access to an university one this might solve the problem for you. Although I know how it sounds until the adapter plates will start being widely available thats all I can think of for now. I am also considering purchasing this helmet since it fits my head the best. Since I dont have friends ( :( ) I was thinking about going with sena dedicated comms to listen to music and take phonecalls. Do you have any experience with this?
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures2 ай бұрын
@@teodor103 I don't know about the Sena, but we use the Cardo system and it works great. We just stuck it on the side and it works fine. The problem for me is if you have 2 helmets the integrated system doesn't work. Also, if you get rid of that helmet and buy a new one, you need a new come system. So the Cardo works well for us.

Hi Tim, I watched your first one so had to see the conclusion. You are a far braver man than I completing such a journey so kudos to you. I'm sure this has made you stronger and more confident than ever now. The sheer logistics of the journey is something to me mentioned too. Like 934 kms in one day with no gas stations on gravel. How much fuel you would have had to carry, and how you contended with sheer exhaustion. When I do long bike trips I can barely handle up to 500-550 kms max in a day, and that's on pavement. By that point my butt is so sore and my leg starts to seriously cramp up, I have to stop, more and more often the farther I try to go. I can't even imagine 962 kms on dirt in a day.
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes, it's a lot of km's riding. I did about 8500km in 11 days. There are gas stops on the Dempster, 370km is the longest stretch. I carried a 5L gas can, but never needed it. The days get very long and I was very sore and tired by the end. But if you want to go up north, everything is far away. I loved the trip and think it's well worth it. (the 934km day was not all on gravel, Whitehorse to Dawson city is paved. That day we rode from the Rock river campground to Whitehorse. The Dempster is about 900km of gravel each way which we broke into 3 days)
@baldandbiking6 ай бұрын
No doubt gravel is such a challenge when soft and loose like that. I see you 10 km in "it's not that bad, they are exaggerating". Then 50 kms in: "OMG get me out of here!" lol but you got plenty of experience and glad to see you made it safely.

Was in Tuk - NO ROAD, fly-in or winter ice road or maybe you might pay someone and hire a boat. The road is only about 6 years old now. On top of the perma frost is eceptionally heavy fabric, ALL the matrials were hauled in from Inuvik, The road bed would be about 25 feet deep, all hauled in. The Dempster is shale, lower your tire pressure for a softer riade and slow down....there are NO bad roads taking the conditions of the land , water and ice. And when off shore drilling was done, all was hauled in the winter time, fuel, rigs, camp, everything. I loved to see all the home, of ground, like a mobile home and skirted, same thing. It was wonderful to see Tuk today from seven years ago.

First of all, a Harley Vrod is a very different 1100cc bike than a Yamaha Vstar 1100. Cruisers are completely different riding than a sport bike. You need different goals.
