The proper way to drive to Bath is down the Fosse Way.

Ahh, the London I knew as a child ! Fascinating how courteous drivers seemed to be allowing plenty of space😎😎😎. Then I think of Elephant & Castle NOW😱😱😱😱😱

I was expecting to feel nostalgic watching this, imagining that England was a rural idyll back in 1963. Then I saw the driver go along new-looking highways that didn't have many trees growing along them yet. So actually this journey would in some ways look greener and more pleasant today.

0:14 - the Ford Zephyr running white indicator lights - and being followed by a Renault Gordini - a rare car even then. Following behind a Vanden-Plas Princess (either 3L or, if with a R-R engine - 4L)

Most of the cars then were impending rust buckets unless some messy underbody protection was sprayed on. Dinitrol?

Someone has probably made this comment elsewhere, but @jonathancolley142 recreates the journey (but starting in Hounslow) here: 'London to Bath by Mk2 Jaguar 2018' kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n5dzZrupttiaaYk.html. No sign of Newbury though, or the site of "Box Box station", and no weird route through Bath: on Lower Borough Walls (why?) then miraculously on Walcot Street.

I'm 86 so all these cars were the models in my youth and that Austin A30/35 was my first car I bought on HP after passing my driving test in 1956 or thereabouts.

@@nickhickson8738 I'm a mere 74, worked in a garage whilst still at school, so serviced many of them, new the ins & outs of most of these cars. This was long before the days of electronics / engine management systems, pollution controls, even seat belts!!

We had 3 of these Jaguars/Daimlers in the 70’s they are beautiful cars… I remember if you held the starter button in to long it would jump off, under the bonnet and you had to hop out and reset it…😂 I restored a number of these in later years as well..

I was just reading P.G. Wodehouse, not Jeeves and Wooster, but regular novels about life in and about London in the 1920s. This is exactly what Wodehouse saw and described so well. Really helps me see what he and his friends saw - 100 years ago now!

I know, I know. Once a lovely country with lovely people. I am glad I spent time there in the 1980's and 90's. I spent a year at the University of Bath in 1983 and loved Bath and the surrounding countryside. In the early 90's I lived and worked in London, my all time favorite city. But I don't think I would recognize it now. I see there are tent cities on Park Lane, where a good friend of mine once lived.

Wow! Thanks for this video. I was born in October '47 and my parents always talked about this blizzard. Of course I don't remember but, we lived at that time in Union City, NJ just across the Hudson from Manhattan and apparently got buried too. Fortunately, just like the folks in the video, my parents could walk to work, grocery stores, etc. in Union City provided things were open. I like in the video all the folks shoveling had fedoras and top coats on. No North Face jackets available back then....and somehow they still survivied! Thanks again.

Thank you for your kind comment. The bit where the group shovel snow together is my favourite part...sadly I fear that today such a group might also gather...but only to call for the city council to do it instead. I hope I am not getting too cynical in my dotage.

I was on the Mauretania from 1952 to 1954. I was a motion picture projectionist, and I run the three cinemas she had on board. When I came home to Liverpool in 1954 to stay with my parents for a month, I was asked to assist a Wallasey cinema that was in trouble. I went and sorted out their problems and while there I met and married an usherette and never went back. See Video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLimaKt228zXlXk.html

Every single new driver should have to watch this, recite it and write an essay and demonstrate all of the techniques and if they don’t get it 100 percent they cannot drive until they can recite it fully, with total understanding because todays new drivers are PRICKS

Continuity error in Bath: For some daft reason he's on Lower Borough Walls (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a9KhZMaSrNuUeKc.htmlsi=vjeHiKjl6EKPUW0a) passing the Lamb and Lion pub, which still exists today. A couple of seconds later he's on Walcot Street, going past the old cattle market and St Michaels Without church.

This should be a mandatory driving instructional video in today’s world (for all countries using Right Hand Drive Cars and who drive on the left side of the road) and those who dont follow it, should be severely penalised. Nowadays almost no one turns right keeping to the correct side of the road, in the manner depicted in this video.
