It pains me greatly to see the Andrew Hallidie cable grip wheel sitting exposed to the elements. I consider the forest service to be callous in the way they blew up remnants of Prof Lowes mountain railway

One of the COOLEST placest ever to go hiking, the vistas are totally unbelievable. You can jump over the streams or walk way up the trails. The vibe of Mt. Lowe gives you all the feelings of the peole from 100 years ago. Add that to the book or pamphlants available, plus a couple DVDs, you really feel it. The Long Beach Pike is my 2nd favorite & 3rd is cruising Whittier Blvd. way back in the day. Oh my, what a lovely time!

You guys made me so happy to post these videos! I lived on Leilani Way which is right near by, during the mid-1970s & used to hike up there all the time. I turned a lot of friends on to the history & the area, they loved it, too. I have a collection of artifacts found at the site from old-timers as well as souvenires. They made over 200 souvenir spoons with Mt. Lowe on them & I even have a Cabinet Photo of Carrie Nation riding the Incline Car. The ruins are fantastic, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

@nealshireman Pretty steep. Don't know how to describe it as I don't ride bikes, I just hike and climb. There are some bad ass trails, though.

What is the source of the little waterfall? Is it always flowing or does it dry up? & What are all of those radio towers for, do you know? All the trails in Orange County look the same, watch out for those rattlesnakes!!

Great video! I climbed Villager also in 2003, hoping to bag Rabbit as well, but my water ran out. The next year I tried climbing Rabbit from the east side, which is supposed to be "easier", but I found it to be too steep. I plan on eventually trying it again with some lighter gear. Your video is really motivating me to get in shape for it!

Great video, Mitch...I have been interested in the Mt. Lowe incline railway since I was a kid living in Sierra Madre. My grandmother had a little paperweight on her desk and a picture of the incline was on it. This was back in the 40s. I would love to take the hike you and your buddies took but I'm physically unable, but thanks to you I was able to go along. Keep up the good work, I look forward to more hiking ventures with you.

The gas operated shotguns do have a tendency to clog the gas tubes up and have issues feeding lower power shells, but the Benelli inertia driven shotguns are better, since there's no dirty gas system, and they'll cycle lighter loads much more reliably. The Beretta 1200 series also had this same exact system, with many parts being interchangeable. I have a 1201FP and it's great. Less recoil than a pump, but still a little more than a gas operated gun, but it's lighter than the gas guns.

A cylinder or improved cylinder choke will help with rifles slugs, a smaller choke than that may be a problem, and a rifled choke is necessary when shooting sabot slugs out of a smooth barrel. Rifled barrels are ideal for sabot slugs.
