Miyoshi Umeki is my favorite! She was the first Asian to achieve the historic feat of winning an Oscar, and it was impressive that she expressed her gentle but strong love in her performance!

Yes, since the very start, the Oscars don't really award the best films and actors of the year. Cirizen Kane didn't win, and Shakespeare in Love (and the Paltrow girl) won... Both things remain incredible to all movie fans.

Not incredible. Remember Harvey Weinstein? He made the biggest upset in Oscar history as Spielberg's 'Saving Private Ryan' was all set to win Best Picture. Weinstein obviously had incentive in Paltrow for his dirty and hard-hitting Oscar campaign. I doubt he had to work as hard for the others members of his harem incl. Jennifer Lawrence. The Oscars have never been about the 'Best' anything, just the most powerful. 'Chicago' is another example, with the Douglas camp behind it and Catherine Zeta Jones ' win as well, yet not on par with the other nominees.

A very strange collection - very heavily weighted to pretentiousness. Loves the nouvelle vague and disdains Hollywood. It really is pretty ridiculous to put I Leopardi (great book, mediocre film) ahead of The Godfather, for instance. And Dekalog as Number one? It is not even Kieslowski's best.

Brokeback Mountain and Capote or Munich could have won Best Picture but through the years CRASH main theme of racism and police brutality that still happens in US everyday, in my opinion it deserves it. 2:52 Edmund Gwenn's remains were missing for YEARS until the youtube channel Hollywood Graveyard volunteered to categorize and organize the ash vaults. His remains were in an unmarked area in an urn; never claimed. He raised money and gave him a proper plaque and they celebrated in his honor at it's debut. Very heartbreaking but also heartwarming story. Was good to see that the man who played the most iconic Santa role got a proper resting place after all those years.

I feel this video really shows what a big leap in maturity cinema took in the 70's, vulgarity and violence and frank depictions of sexuality are important tools in the artistic toolbox (not saying there isn't a place for more restrained, classy films as well) and you could really see the benefits of the loosening of cultural restrictions in the movies of the time and going forward. the movies from the 30's 40's and 50's were great but you could tell how much censorship and control they were under
