I doubt Nintendo would give us blue and yellow shells/Yoshis since functionally you can substitute swimming for blue yoshi and the large boot ground pound for a yellow yoshi. What I'd really like to see is permanent powerups with a life meter that can only be lost by going through a specific barrier. That way it would be possible to design a Link or SMB2 level that isn't a no damage run or a level with an endless supply of powerups.

Edit: even though the game footage dont seem to be cuted, if you look at his face or at chat there was clearly a cut, now im even more confused Edit 2: oh i get it now, every time he enters a door the timer freezes, thats why the timer is still 234 when he leaves out of the pipe, he just cut the bunch of doors part
