Hike this week and slipped on a wet board on a walkway and came down on my right back ribcage. "Ok" until later in the day and I sneezed... pop and shooting pain.

19 years ago, I suffered from a right pinky pain due to a 🏀 accident I had at my school gym. I wasn't paying attention to the 🏀. So I slipped on the 🏀 with my right pinky. Now in 2024, the pain remains off-and-on. It comes and goes.

I experienced a mallet finger around Easter. It’s my middle finger on my right hand 😏. I did a lot of research and tried to find a therapist that would make me a custom splint in my area, but no such luck. I tried to use the padded aluminum splint the hand specialist gave me, but it was difficult to tape it on by myself and nearly Impossible to remove the cloth tape by myself without bending my finger. I used epoxy to glue Velcro strips on the aluminum padded strip; however, after two weeks, I got up at night to find it had fallen off. So, I started my count over. I eventually got a stacked splint online (one of many different kinds that I had purchased and tried)! After a total count of 10 weeks, I went back to my hand specialist and he removed the splint. My finger drooped but not 90 degrees like it did after my fall. My doctor told me “good luck” and if it starts to droop more to go back. I had done a lot of research online and came across videos by Michelle, a hand specialist. She advised that in most cases it is very important to take it slow and not to remove the splint and go your merry way like it never happened. (My mallet finger did not involve any broken bones, it just came disconnected from the bone, a tendinous mallet, which I understand takes longer to heal). I followed her recommendations and continued to wear the splint while starting the first week of exercises, which involved removing the splint 3-4 times a day and gently bending my fingers down. At the end of 5 days it started drooping more! Ugh! I found a therapist that made a custom splint, which is much more comfortable and made out of cast material. I still remove it daily to clean and allow air to my finger but I do not let it bend one little bit! The hand specialist recommended that I leave it on at least 6 more weeks. To play it safe, I decided to go for 8 weeks as they originally recommend for this type of mallet finger where the bone is not broke. I have 6 weeks to go! I surely wish I would have gotten the custom splint right at the start! Hoping for the best outcome!

When Alex took out the knife of ms Lewton I said to my mom he shouldn’t have done that, 1. Cuz the knife could have stopped the blood from coming out and 2. The knife would have his finger prints and they have already been suspicious of him cause he knew who would die first and even that the plane would crash, that brings a lot of suspect to him.

I got mallet finger a week ago, and started wearing a splint. Three days into it, it slipped off my hand while I slept and when I woke up I was so sad. I am now wearing a sock over the hand secured by my watch. It is weird, but it seems to be working.

Slipped and fell on a slope of grass/mud. Slid down and hit a wooden post with my elbow hitting my chest on the right side. Had slight breathing problem at the moment, then all seemed alright till I went to bed that night. Then breathing problem started had to call for help, on sitting upright felt much better , took pain killers(ibrufen) and slept off in sitting position , later slept sideways on bed. Next 2 days little trouble lifting the right due to pain in front right side ribs. Sunday fell Monday slept side - ok to get up Tuesday slept side - ok to get up feel better, lesser pain. Wednesday slept down facing - pain started while trying to get up from bed Thursday slept facing up pain to get, went to A&E,but due to 6 hour delay to see doctor returned home Friday slept up facing pain, Saturday slept up too much pain to get up,even slight sound from chest, went to A&E they did not take xray reason NHS and same treatment with/without fracture, started higher pain killer codeine Sunday start sitting on sofa to sleep, not much pain Taking pain medication as prescribed (5day) and going on, with deep breathing exercise My suggestion is avoid lying down atleast for few weeks in this condition as I felt it made it worse for me after lying down in bed and trying to get up Have to wait and see once prescribed medication is over how is situation

I'm 60 & about 10 days ago i fell of a treadmill & landed on my hard plastic paper shredder. I just started a new job and this happened the morning of the 2nd day of work. Right after i fell I felt nauseous & vomited. I was fine prior. I also couldn't breathe right. I live alone & called a relative & she took me to the ER. Very painful ride there. They did x rays, cat scan. They said i broke 3 ribs. They gave me a Motrin & said to rest for 6 weeks! I live alone & let me tell you Motrin does not help. I called my Dr 9 times over the weekend & she never called me back & refused pain meds. At 60 I've never asked for pain meds. I suffered so badly alone in my home. I was in tears. I'm lucky some friends brought me a power recliner. I really don't know what I would have done without it. Cruel that doctors don't help when i was out of my mind in pain.

Hell, I had pneumonia last year when I was 26 and I never smoked. God that was a rough month? 2 months? I don't remember but it was multiple weeks. I think at least a week in the ICU, empyema, collapsed lung, thoracentesis, chest tubes, and so many IV changes that my arms looked like I was abusing heroin

Back in the day there were no smoking restrictions. You could smoke while you're working. No smoke breaks. So, two packs was a normal thing. But dang, when I was bartending, I was very relieved when smoking was no longer legally allowed except in certain areas. Everyone was smoking, mostly. You're always breathing it in. In that environment, even someone that doesn't smoke can have bad lung problems because of their job.

Hello Dr. Crystal I’ve lived with a mallet finger for over a decade now. Tried therapy to get some of the lifting motion to improve but nothing. I play the Piano and recently picked up the Accordion. I also got referred to a specialist in Hand surgery. Dr. I would like your advice seeing if corrective surgery is a good idea for the Stability and function aspect. I really like playing music and i never plan on putting it aside
