RDR2 runs on Steam Deck?
@MusicJunkie372 күн бұрын
I am 26, turning 27 and you made me feel old 😂 Also thinking about picking up a Deck
@thefoxhouse2 күн бұрын
It’s a great system. I don’t even use my pc for gaming since I’ve picked it up. Plus many of the games I want to play aren’t appropriate for my son watch so while he’s watching Bluey on the TV I can comfortably play on the couch. I also picked up a 100w Ugreen charger for my car which makes it quite convenient to play when I have a moment if my wife is running errands. I have run Bazzite OS and ChimeraOS on 7840U devices and it does a great job giving you the SteamOS experience on more powerful hardware. The ROG Ally Z1 Extreme handhelds have had some good price drops since the X refresh has been announced. You can pick one up used for under $400 on eBay and around $500 for ones with 2TB ssd upgrades. If you’re playing in bed you might consider enabling the night mode in settings to reduce blue light

I built my first PC in 2019. PUBG, 2019 Warzone, Overwatch 1, death stranding, Cyberpunk, Naraka Bladepoint and valorant. I am only mentioning games that I have played for more than 30 hours. Now in 2024, I only play Valorant on PC. The reason why I ordered a Steam Deck was to play games like Tunic and Nier Automata comfortably at a couch or on my bed.

If you're worried about the blue light or just overall having something a bit too sharp for your eyes before bed, the steam deck has that "warm light' feature on the settings wherever the brightness tab is

Personally I recommend windows handhelds over the steam deck. I know they are a lot more expensive and you have to decide whether or not that is ok with you but I own a Windows handheld and I bought my friend a steam deck since they are significantly cheaper and I have just ran into a nightmare amount of issues on the deck that just weren't a problem at all on a Windows handheld and that is just something I don't ever want to deal with. To me it's worth the extra money to just get a Windows one.
@MasterMooper4 күн бұрын
you can install windows to a steam deck
@AlexEqualsAwesome933 күн бұрын
@@MasterMooperI know but I've heard that that's not the best experience on the deck and you would also be taking an even further performance hit on a device that is already weak.

@AlexEqualsAwesome932 күн бұрын
@@piens51 that's the problem. Everything's just playable on windows and you don't have to worry about this whole is it verified or not thing.
@piens512 күн бұрын
@@AlexEqualsAwesome93 I guess. I supise me being Linux user before the deck just means that im not bothered by only most and not all games working out of the box. So what did you try to do for said bad experience? Or did you speak purely theory.

i cant justify a steam deck for me. i wanted to get it for emulation but a 200$ phone handles emulation w better battery. i just wish it was actually portable and lasts decent hrs, i would've bought it.

Oooooh brother I hope you get hooked on BG3. I never played crpg or DND and was never interested, but my workolace got closed on bg3 release and reviews were raving, so I decided to give it a try and refund after 2hours. I end up playing 18h straight. Just started my second playthrough on Monday. There are some settings that worth messing around to improve battery performance dramatically, I don't remember them of the top of my head and since this time I play in short sessions of 45mins I haven't felt the need to look it up again. But more importantly when it comes to deck please find time to try out trackpad for camera controls on first person game shooter or anything else. As someone who could never play anything first person with controller since I grew up on PC, trackpad was a miracle, I got used to playing fps within a week of practice every day for 15-30 min before bed and in two weeks I was blasting fps at the same level as PC (I suck at fps so it's a low bar :D ) The problem is that it sucks to set it up. I think it's similar to what you said about reviewers there's too much mumbo jumbo there, same with settings. But there's good video on KZfaq that shows what to do and it's quick then you just adjust your sensitivity. That's why I said please find time to try out, just that to try it out and let us know what you think. I personally stopped playing fps because for some reason I couldn't get my steam controls transferred from one game to another so I had to do it manually every time. That being said I plan to coming back to it because it was game changer for me.

I played old CoD games with trackpad as mouse look. Awesome. Every older game without propper controller support works great with trackpad.

Meh not doing research, When people say they are 'trackpad guy' it means they have found some uses that are irreplaceable, when you play the game if you just use it as is ofc it's not gonna work, you are supposed to set trackpads to functions you want to use for each game. Try virtual menu or nested virtual menu for example.

Nice purchase, I hope you enjoy it! I bought my steamdeck a while back and I feel like it was a mistake. I'm mostly a PC gamer but I also played with my kids on the nintendo switch. So when I got the steamdeck I quickly realized that although games run fine, most of the games I played run at 30 or 40 FPS which compared to my laptop which runs at 90-120 FPS... it feels like a huge downgrade. I know, it's a simple handheld device but for some reason I felt different when I used to play on my PS1 on the CRT TV and then the PS Vita came out... the games and screen felt sooooo much better than the TV... I guess I'm getting old (and by old I mean I have enough money to get a good PC and monitor to notice the difference when I have an inferior product in my hands)

If you're into sci-fi then make sure you check out the Deus Ex series. The original Deus Ex from 2000 was way too close to predicting "current events". Then Deus Ex Human Revolution (2012) is a fun stealth/action take on the cyberpunk aesthetic, and the story is still pretty good (I'd argue Deus Ex:HR is at least on par with Cyberpunk in terms of delivering on the genre, just the Deus Ex series isn't open world).
