Correct me if I am wrong, but Islay seems to be demonstrating Hitchcock levels of skill, enthusiasm and speed, no? And this is only practice! Of course, as always, that’s a wee bit moot as Scotties are the winners running these courses by virtue of the fact that they’re so damn cute.
@agilityscottie2 ай бұрын
Thank you! Of course every dog is different and I think/hope my ability to train dogs hopefully improved over the years. Hitchcock was a truly exceptional dog as he had an incredible understanding of what to do. He had an asthonishing high rate of clean runs. Not only was he the first Scottie qualifying for an international agility competition (european open) he also did reach the finals at the World Agility Open Championships between 2015 and 2019 8 times and had unbelievable 26 of 29 runs without course fault (and three runs with each one fault). If you imagine how fast faults and elimination can happen, this shows how great this was. Islay is a very cool and highly intelligent dog. She seems to think that she is a Border Collie as I can send her nicely far away. She had some issues with jumping style and we are still working on her running dog walk (because I switched method). Finn and Riley are both very reliable and consistent in their performance. They really want to do it correctly. With Islay I have to be very precise to handle her otherwise she can be over the wrong obstacle in a split second. So it’s a lot of fun with her for sure as she is always highly motivated and good for me to develop my handling skills.

@@agilityscottie Ah, I see. Though I look forward to and watch and enjoy all of your videos I didn’t understand, until you just explained it, how “good” Hitchcock was in terms of consistency in what I saw in the videos of him you posted. I didn’t understand how many competitions “he" entered. I have had two back-to-pack pair of Scotties and did serious obedience training with a couple of them. There’s nothing like a well trained canine buddies like yours. For some reason, agility never entered my mind. I wish it would have. Your videos have made me have fantasies of getting two more by flying over to your neck of the woods. I have always wanted to visit your part of the world. Make it a Two-For trip. I don’t know how many times I have watched your winter videos where you're playing with your Scots in the snow, etc. But I am 71, and though in good shape, I fear they might outlive me. Thanks for the reply explanation AND for making these videos. I really do look forward to them and watch many of them repeatedly from time to time over morning coffee. Especially the out and about videos.

Here is one important sentence Google Translate got exactly backwards! I wrote, "It always upsets me that people from other countries seem to know how to communicate in English and yet I can't reciprocate." Google translated it as, "It always annoys me that people from other countries don't seem to know how to communicate in English and yet I can't reciprocate. DON'T seem.....exactly backwards. Scary.
