The half wrap cleat hitch is fine for temporary docking (fuel docks, restaurantson the water, etc), but if it's for long term (over night or several days) you are better off using the full wrap cleat hitch.

And, while reading, also had to try to figure out why some words are in bold, others not. For example, in the first step, why is the word "line" in bold? Correct me if I'm wrong: This is the temporary cleat hitch (lunches, shopping etc.). For longer unattended stays, the rope eeds to wrap a full turn around the base for a double binding & the rest of the steps remain the same, correct? (prob should be mentioned in this video also)

Right you lot!! Before I even hit play I could see this was incorrect!!! When mooring to a pontoon or a quayside or anywhere, you only put the end of the mooring warp ashore, the rest of the rope goes back to the boat and all adjustments and making fast are done onboard. Learn to splice an eye ands simply drop it over the cleat, job done. Okay? Got it all you unqualified boat owners who call yourselves captains but who have never passed an exam to justify the honourable tile!

Replace your cords every few years especially if you are on saltwater. I lost my boat a few months ago due to a failed cord. Showed no signs of corrosion. X-rays showed it was in bad shape.

The first thing I judge about a captain and his crew is how they tie-up their boat. The vast majority of recreational boaters don't do it well. As far as I am concerned, when using a hitch, the cleat hitch described in this video is the correct way. I agree with the sea scouts, local law enforcement and Harbormasters, the Coast Gaurd, merchant marines and the U.S. Navy on this matter.
