Yeah that is the IS (Image Stabiliser) element. During normal operation IS off the element movement is locked by the motors (actuators more precisely). When IS is enabled at 70mm the physical movement of the stabiliser element is not that drastic but at 200mm that element is going to be bazerking allarround in there when handheld. I've been waiting a long time for a wide angle prime lens for canon L series. So I'm going to buy an RF 35 F1.4, but after understand its real wide angle I realized that it gives too small difference with my current RF 50 F1.2L lens. I definitely like the RF 50 F1.2L for everything but its weight is not convenient for hiking. So always wanted a good fast lens at wide angle. Last year I bought the RF 24 F1.8 but in fact this lens was a compromise, it has very strong geometric distortion on edges and the camera profile stretches the corners a lot which makes many shots look very cheap. Now I want to sell this lens, it is lightweight comfortable IS lens with good aperture but with very mediocre picture and colors. I had already pre-ordered the RF 35 F1.4L VCM and was already thinking of buying it, but the thought that the 35 would be little different from the RF 50 F1.2L made it feel like a worthless purchase. I started researching and came across this lens RF 14-35 F4L IS USM and I was really interested in it as it weighs only 540 grams which is great for hiking and traveling as the RF 35 F1.4L VCM also weighs 555 grams but is not as versatile as the RF 14-35 F4L IS USM. Now I'm back to wondering if it makes sense to go for the RF 15-35 F2.8L IS USM as it is noticeably more expensive and heavier, the lens is definitely outstanding but is the one stop aperture justified in this case as I will have a significantly higher system weight.
@JaredHoyman2 күн бұрын
I own both these lenses and I always go back and fourth to which one makes the most sense and since I can't decide I just kept both ;). My 15-35 2.8 RF actually lives on my Canon R7 for video. My 14-35 f4 is my work horse for real estate photography and video walk throughs. If shallow depth of field on wide angle is not important to you I would save the money and go with the 14-35 f4 RF. You get slightly wider, which does make a difference and it's light for walking and gimbal work. Refurbished is actually a good deal. amzn.to/3VQXU7F

@JaredHoyman8 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching. I’ll answer it backwards. I’ll shoot clog3 for real estate walk throughs and environments where I don’t have full control of lighting. That way I have leverage in pose to bring back highlights and shadows. My talking head vids or some outdoor shots will be in standard. That being said I will shoot clients in clog 3 because I don’t want to chance a slight error on my end. For the other question I dumped premiere a year and a half ago for Davinci resolve. I found that resolve handles h265 better than premier did on pc, but where things really changed for me was when I dumped pc for a MacBook Pro M2 Max. Mac runs h265 10bit natively and it edits like butter with Davinci resolve. I haven’t looked back at pc since. I actually ended up selling my ryzen 9 12 core pc with rtx 3080 and liquid cooler because my Mac render faster and quieter without the need of creating proxies.

Great infos there, with quite revealing tests for ppl like me who just acquired their brand new R6II ! One question though i'd like to focus on (pun intended!), even if the answer may seem obvious to many (but i just need to be sure before investing in RF glasses): Does this focus breathing correction work in AF mode only, or does it work just the same along a manual focus change? Since i love to manually focus from my RS2 gimbal buttons as often as i can (just to keep kinda filmic approach), it would great being able to retain this focus correction in every situation. I saw a few demos here and there already showing this function from Canon, but it's always with AF turned on... So thank you by advance if you can confirm that manual focus doesnt change anything about it !

Personally, I’ve never owned EF lenses though.. and theyre just as expensive as the RF for me :s The canon mirrorless camera i have is the first camera ive ever bought. Its extremely nice in IQ. We used to own old canon point-and-shoot and a camcorder when i was a kid. My issue is that canon doesnt have weathersealed lenses that arent massive or extremely expensive. In addition to that, it turns out that I HATE changing lenses outdoor with a passion. I may have messed up by choosing canon. Mainly because of the issues i have with carrying a light set with zooming capabilities. I should’ve gone for a micro four thirds, but at the same time i also want top IQ. There are times i want to shoot landscape, and times i want to photograph birds in one walking trip. I got a 70-200mm f4, my first and currently only L lens. I like the handling of it. Its soo smooth, but the expensive and overall weight is massive. I also have a 24-105mm f/4-7.1 but i dislike the feeling and use of it for some reason, even though its sharp. Maybe because of its focal lenght. So i can carry one lens, but then what if i want to take landscape images? I thought about the 24-240 RF, but honestly, what would be the point of a fullframe then? I dont regret getting this system, but i feel like I could have possibly taken a different course, possibly better. For now, im heavily experimenting with my setup. Lightest setup could be a tiny 750’ish grams, but with the L i could go up to 1900 (with battery grip). Thats another annoyance actually. I REALLY like the extra grip(and battery), but i also dislike the extra weight it gives… Its not as bad for changing prime lenses as it is with heavy zoom lenses. I suppose i could try and get used to it, or sell the 70-20 f4 and live with no weather sealing, or go for the f4 zooms (which was my original plan), and learn how to change lenses easily + invent an easy way to carry them. Using a shoulderstrap isnt bad, but weight becomes an issue, especially with the battery grip. I really dont want to let it go, but its so hard to strike a nice balance otherwise… A camera bag is great too, but i want space for other stuff too and for general walks i always carry a bag with me in case i buy something. That said, i get lazy if my camera isnt already out when i see something nice. At the end of the day, the entire issue boils down to convenience, because canon doesnt offer lightweight, weathersealed lenses.
@JaredHoyman9 күн бұрын
I would say the least expensive L series lens with weather sealing is the 24-105 f4 RF. My copy is sharp and I love it. Full frame won’t offer very light lenses for zooms.

Usually my wireless systems are in the $5000 each range and that doesn't include the cost of the mic! That's another $500 or so. The point is, these Rode systems are actually pretty good for what they are. I'm not saying they are equivalent to say a top of the line Lectrosonics systems, but I have used them for some big gigs and on large productions when their small size and weight matters. Like when a camera is on a gimble and needs critical audio transferred to the camera or even just a scratch track. But I have used these for critical audio for a NBC News feature I worked on as well as on a Rogers Media (Canada) documentary on Jamal Murray (Denver Nuggets basketball player). The system just worked! I would love to get a one of my own! Thanks!
