Couldn't agree more! It is a journey and you need to experiment for yourself. Teachers can certainly help you along the way, so pick someone who actually knows what they're doing. And remember it is almost never the equipment.
I just comment because I hope to play in your band sax section.

Don't understand a word Eric but I'm a huge fan of your playing. Always awed by how effortless you make it look. Hope you're well. Not sure why you have a thong pulled over the top of your head.

I always enjoy watching your KZfaq channel, Eric-san. The ‘traps’ you speak of are widely seen in all fields. The reason for the spread of such ‘traps’ is the ‘information asymmetry’ between the sender and receiver of information. The information sender who sets the ‘trap’ uses the superiority of information to mislead the receiver who wants to get information at all costs (for musicians, they want to be better than anyone else). Phrases like ‘If you listen to me, you will definitely get better’ or ‘This is the best thing I recommend’ are very simple, easy to accept, and make you feel like it’s easy to practice. However, what often lies ahead of being led this way is just the consumption of costs that should not have been paid in the first place. To deal with such ‘traps’, you should keep in mind that ‘the road to hell is paved with good intentions’, and as you say, even if it costs a little initial cost, you should ask for direct lessons from reputable instructors or well-known professionals.

Eric...... I was a drummer back in the 70's in high school and college jazz band so was very tuned into Buddy. I'm curious back in 85/86 when you were with him, what was the average salary a player could make in a band of that level. Not asking what you made. Thats your biz. But just a ballpark number. Thanks !

Loved the tempo. Nice to slow it down to hear the richness of sound and nuance.
