@@mechanixautorepairthank you for the response.. it's hard to say, I'm usually the one driving but we can feel it even in the brake pedal. I think was about 150 we've done this to numerous Nissans with cvts transmissions and have seen amazing results from literally not driving to back to normal some have 1 filter some 2 and there's no harm in changing the only thing to be careful would be to flush on an automatic transmission but even on automatic just a filter change have only seen improvement

@user-oc9vk7gs2s3 ай бұрын
Use exactly what the manufacturer tells you to
@fisqual3 ай бұрын
I'd probably just use 0w20. It's cheaper and close enough. ...And look at past toyota engines that started to consume oil when they started rating them for lower viscosities (like the 2AZ was fine at 5w30 but started being an oil burner when they spec'd it for 5w20).
@Cusers3 ай бұрын
thank you very much I am still guaranteed with 81,000km when I check the dipstick I see nothing because the 0w16 is too liquid I have him that the toyota dynamic force does not like the high viscosity because of the pump but it is hard to find information thanks again for your answer @@fisqual

Pretty sure it runs 0w-20, which isn't THAT thin and modern oils degrade much slower, and modern engines are less degrading than older ones. Older engines are dumping a lot more carbon into the oil than the new stuff, they burn colder which makes a lot of soot, these newer engines are running hot and burning all the carbon out of them. Not to mention older thick cast iron rings and cylinders would wear a lot more rapidly, i've had SBCs in the shop that had bored themselves out. New coated cylinders and moly rings are much more wear resistant. But you should have pretty much dinged this as a bad motor from the oil and filter that comes out of it, when you're sick drs do a blood test, oils an engines blood, always drain it from the patient and check the filter it will tell you a lot. Metallic vs non metallic shavings, pieces, sludge, smell, etc etc. Frying 2 starters was a poor show and a waste of shop time (unless the customers paying for diag, in which case it's poor ethics). This is not just 1 or 2 skipped oil changes this is proper neglect, check the service sticker if it even has one i bet this things 40k on an oil change and whatever oil you're seeing was added after the damage was done.
@mechanixautorepair3 ай бұрын
1.it does run 0w20 and considering most older motors ran 5w30 or higher this is definitely.on the the thinner side 2. the issue is not just the piston rings or bearing clearances these engines have vvt requiring thinner oils to run properly for the vvt etc. 3. they are also direct injection so the fuel doesn't clean the valves causing carbon build up on them and misfires 4. we put in a starter because the oil wasn't what we assumed to be the issue because the car was running albeit with a heavy misfire and originally had low fuel pressure on the low pressure pump it only didn't start after we shut it off once during testing we assumed this was still a fuel delivery issue and didn't dream the motor had just seized especially because it didn't shut off it just didn't restart 4. thanks for you feedback! :)

What is the evidence of this being an issue of low viscosity oil?
@mechanixautorepair3 ай бұрын
There's tighter clearances on engine bearings ... And this is how car manufacturers become EPA compliant to be more efficient the newer cars we've seen have viscosity as low as 0w8 older cars you could easily skip an oil change or 2 and you'd be fine but that's not the case anymore
@SPAZTICCYTOPLASM3 ай бұрын
@@mechanixautorepair "There's tighter clearances on engine bearings" That's simply not true, these engines the 2GR, have acceptable bearing clearances around 1.7-2.6 thou which isn't that much off from 1.3-3.5 thou on something like a SBC. we aim for under 2, that large figure is acceptable if you're running race clearances. and these motors run 40 weight oil and short oil change intervals. Thin oil isn't the issue, people not maintaining their things is. thinner oil is free power and free efficiency ask any drag racer. If thicker oils made engines magically self maintaining, i wouldn't have a job!
