This young man has a great voice, especially for middle school. I hope he continued singing in high school and beyond.

Damn! He was spectacular. Aaron, you did those vets proud. (and Billy Joel). You could see the emotion on those guy's faces and he so deserved that standing ovation.

My uncles were in nam one delivered supplies to marines in the jungle, the other was a,seabee. My aunt was,an army nurse at a,mash type hospital, my cousin was a green beret. Very good cover of this song. The veterans seemed to like it.

I was in Vietnam 1969-70 when I was older. Not the average of 18 or so. 22 and like most others came back much older. I have never heard this song but in lisstening it does describe Saigon. I suppose I too look as old as these other vetereans. And, I appreciate hearing the song now. What a voice this young person has. I thank him.

That was such a stupid waste of money, effort, time, and young men’s lives. We got not a damn thing for doing it. When the people are stupid and complacent, our government bathed in our blood while filling their pockets with tax dollars. Wake up America.

I'm a Vietnam combat vet with 173rd . i never heard this song but i sure can tell you it wasn't written by a veteran. One that gets to me is the song 'Sam Stone' from John Prine from the 1970's.
@seanmckenna880710 ай бұрын
Why would you even bother writing that comment? What the hell does it NOT being written by a veteran have to do with the message it’s telling? I think it’s message was spot on and I appreciate Joel’s recognition and respect for the waste and pain inflicted upon the young men of America and their families for a stupid shit, meaningless, “war.”
@user-ss3dj5qd6y10 ай бұрын
it's not necessarily that he is not a vet it's that he uses such hollow words that i've heard reused in other songs. Sounds like he joined the gravy train about ten years too late and is just in it for money. IT'S ALSO TRUE LIKE Mike Tyson said......They all think they can fight till they get hit in the mouth! @@seanmckenna8807

That helicopter sound is the sound of the workhorse helo the Bell UH-1 Iroquois, lovingly nicknamed the "Huey". I heard this sound every day, all day long on TV News for a dozen years. To this day, I can recognize the Huey...and cry.
