Amaziiing! This should definitely go up on KZfaq search. I have an exam tomorrow for art college, and the first day of examination we have a 5 hour live drawing session, where we draw a portrait with someone sitting down, with their hands in their lap (I'm from Romania). Of course the construction has to be good, the composition, the accuracy of the proportions, the shading. I've been searching KZfaq for days, formulating in all kinds of ways the things that I need to learn, and sadly did not find much. I was kinda disappointed that the search was limited. Why was it so hard to find you? When you do have those videos that are so well put together, organised. You teach then basics. The high level basics :) You have the skills and you are a professional, you have a lot to offer! Very very good explanation, helps understand what we're doing wrong, how to learn the new approach. It's amazing... The video is so nice (the editing) Also your program is a very good option and I'm looking forward to join, sometime. Thank you 💜

Hi Sarah, thank you so much for your comment, it made my day! My channel is really small so far, I'm sure it will grow as I add more content :) I'll do my best to become more easily discoverable! Best of luck with your exam.

*Thanks* for the informative video. New to channel, looking forward to watching the rest. Tilt, width to height proportions (depth later?), straight lines first then adjust for angles (sounds like Bezier curves), number of lines then the value planes between them (hightlights and shadows afterwards). Appreciate the logical drawing order. 2:00 slightly incorrect porportions affect the realism of a drawing even though at first hard to articulate why. The right side incorrect flower has a truncated box feel that doesn't flow like the left side drawing. Subtle but overall impressions count.

Thank you for this series of videos Marina! These 3 videos have been really helpful in stepping through the process of learning to see and then recreating what I see. The 3rd video in particular clarified for me the difference between using line vs using values to create realistic forms. I'm not specifically interested in drawing portraits per se, but the lessons here are applicable to all drawing I think... Excellent, clear examples and explanations of your processes.

Hi there! Thank you very much for your kind words, I'm so happy to hear that the series has been useful. You're absolutely right, it's mostly the eye-specific anatomy that only relates to drawing eyes. Otherwise, to draw anything, we need to develop the same foundational skills in both drawing and seeing :)

Thanks. But how can you identify the shapes and proportions of the eye sockets to help place it right on the head?
@TheDrawingSource2 ай бұрын
Hi Tyrone, great question. It takes 1) studying the shape of the eye socket and how it appears to change as the head turns, and 2) learning to see the 4 subtle landmarks of the eye socket visible on the surface of the face. It's too much to cover here, (especially in a text-based reply - images are much more effective), but I teach all of this in the anatomy module of my Eye Drawing Intensive.

Excellent tutorial! The best I've encountered on the subject so far. As I intend to learn how to work with pencils and charcoals I just subscribed and gave you the only one like I'm allowed to :o( I was baffled to see such a skilled artist with only 1.5K subs!? But then you haven't really created much content for the site over this past two years. I hope that'll change as you're absolutely great!
