Actually, *male* calicos are considered "lucky". This is because they're rare, and their rarity is caused by the fact that the Y chromosome cannot have both orange and non-orange genes (aka what makes calico cats calico). Therefore, every male cat has an extra X chromosome (klinefelter syndrome), which is extremely rare. True calico cats cannot be bred and only occur in females and males with kleinfelter syndrome.

There's only one breed that has the calico or muddled color that breeders don't like and that is the Egyptian Mau. I happen to have one. Her start in life was not very nice. She was dumped at the store I was working at. I checked her over and found that she was emaciated and pregnant. She wasn't even a year old. The breeder bred her in her first season! This is one of many reasons why I do not like Backyard breeders! Also, the calico Egyptian Mau is not wanted in the show arena. These cats are supposed to have only two colors on the over coat and the undercoat is a cream or beige color. They are also known as the original spotted cat. Egyptian Mau cats have olive green eyes and an extra flap of skin that goes from belly to back legs. That's why they always look like they are flabby whether they are fixed or not. That extra flap of skin is there to help them stretch out farther and so they can run faster than any other domestic cat. The Egyptian Mau cat's weight is always about 6 pounds. They are somewhat shy and will not allow people to cuddle them or pick them up. They will instigate cuddling if they want the attention. It also takes time for them to adjust to a new home. They choose you, not the other way around. LOL! My Egyptian Mau is named Mittens and she will be 16 years old tomorrow, May first. (Not her actual birthday but close enough.) ❤
