Good stalking skill. Reminds me of wild trout fly fishing on small lochans, although I creep round on hands and knees sometimes if I see a cracking fish. Maybe it's me but after 40 years of fishing I would take the view that first fish was a win, no need to sigh, you'd fooled it and played it pretty much to hand. The bonus is it wasn't handled and mauled just to get trophy photos, which generally is not good for fish. I need to get more into lrf, done some sea fly fishing like that - pollack on a trout rod is next level. They chase a small tube fly up from deep rocks like a trout snapping at it. Locations a bit like that but dropping down deeper.

I'm using the lip grips here to give me some control over the fish while handling it and unhooking etc, the last thing I want is to have a fish falling on the sharp rocks which would no doubt cause much worse damage.

Lovely video and some great fish. I’m in North Cornwall, Polzeath, later this month but it’s hard fishing as it’s always blowing a bloody gale and lots of cliffs without much access to the types of place you were fishing so I think I’ll be looking further afield this time. Tight Lines for the rest of the summer.

It looks like you are not using a dedicated jigging rod?. I want to give it a go before splashing out £200-£300 on a specialised rod. I have a spinning rod 20-40G and a 12-20 Ilb boat road.
@saltwaterjunky607
@saltwaterjunky607 2 ай бұрын
No I don't use dedicated jigging rods I just like a good fixed spool spinning setup, nothing against the overhead setups it's only me being stubborn and sticking to what I know and love. I do believe a proper SPJ setup does make the whole process more efficient and perhaps a bit less tiring over the course of the day, however it is quite doable with a spin rod as you've seen. A quick note on casting weight ratings on your rod, I find for virtical fishing as a general rule of thumb you can use double the weigh of what your spinning rod is rated to cast, so for a 40grm rated rod you should be able to get away with using jigs up to 80grms in weight for virtical fishing. Hope that makes sense

Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit kzfaq.infoUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.

Mate the boat, the sea, the dolphins, the jigging. Are you sure you weren't over here in New Zealand brother. We use overhead sets, as its a bit easier to react on the drop and we use the japanese method of 2 assist hooks each end, and a slow pitch technique rather than yo yo
@saltwaterjunky607

It's a brilliant method isn't it, and awesome to see how slow Jigging has made it's mark on fisheries all around the world. Indeed my technique isn't too pretty and my gears not the most efficient but it's fun all the same and that's what it's all about my friend 😊👍

What I should have done was use the net on that first fish. Imo in this kind of location it's better to have some degree of control over the fish with the use of a lip grip, rather than having them thrash around and potentially dropped on the rocks.
