The S80 was a little darker and very even. The S90, while still having the beautiful classical sound, was slightly brighter and more alive. They both sound great but I think the S80 may be better for playing all those Ferling studies with clear, even, tone.

I forgot to add that I play an S90 180 when I'm really focused on classical material.

Dear Joshua could you tell me what is the difference between the supreme and the reference neck?
@enoffz80212 ай бұрын
Embouchre strength from the sides is absolutely essential like you say at 0:21. For about a month, I lost all strength on the right right side of my mouth due to Bell's Palsy (a facial paralysis) It left me unable to play a single note on a saxophone without air just leaking out the side. Then, until strength came back completely, I couldn't play loud or high. I'm fully recovered now and I've learned to keep the sides of my embouchre firm (and not to just bite the reed in the middle).

How would either of these compare to a Meyer USA M5?
@heaneymusic3 ай бұрын
Very different. The Meyer has a more open tip, larger round chamber (as opposed to square), thinner rails, and small baffle. More of a jazz mouthpiece, not classical. The Meyer will play with a little more room for loudness, edge, and less focus.
@dropthatfone3 ай бұрын

Question for those using the jubilee SA80 ii - is the palm keys really sharp for those playing on a gold lacquer horn. The horn below the octave key c# is really in tune but however when I start playing in the palm keys it’s really sharp around 20-30 cents sharp. I can voice it but it’s I lose the clarity of the sound and it sounds like an undertone. I’ve contacted selmer in hopes of having the neck replaced but I’m still waiting to hear back.

This is most likely a key heights issue, not a neck issue.

Thanks, Joshua! I started on alto 30 years ago, then stopped after a year or so. I always ended with a sorely bitten lower lip. My embouchure was far from pleasant or consistent. Tried several different reeds, even a more expensive mouthpiece than the one Yamaha put in case. No-one ever pointed out that my lower lip should be outside my teeth. I was about to get my lower incisors rounded off by the dentist, when I decided to check on KZfaq. I found one other teacher who helped me out of the dream and now your video which made me smile instead of banging my head on my saxophone case. I’m going straight to practise!

Appreciate the honest comparison. You come across in a fair neutral position. They’re both ausum instruments. Wish I could afford the Alto Supreme, I presently have the Selmer Series lll model 64 Tenor which in my opinion an ausum Sax

Bro.... you just helped me have a major breakthrough in my intonation. I was basically rolling the bottom lip in so much it made the space in my mouth smaller making middle d and e very sharp. Rolling out, it fixed it and i learned that there is a spot om the cork where the whole horn plays pretty well in tune now as long as I maintain lip rolled out and steady air stream

Great video teacher, I saw that you use a selmer series 3, in your opinion the series 3 is superior to the S80 2? If you can answer I would be grateful...Brazilian here.

In terms of aesthetics, the sanagisawa two 32 is by far better and maybe even in everything else like mechanics and fingering etc....by far the best sax I saw...Better than any Selmer, no matter how supreme he may be.
