Yes. Many of my teachers also say the same thing-whatever you do in waltz you can do in fox trot.

Foxtrot has its roots in waltz. International Standard Slow Fox trot uses 4 count as well

How does the rollower know she is supposed to switch feet and rock step on her left foot? I do a similar move but the follower rock steps on her right foot. Cross in front with a triple step and rock step on her left. Cross back and then out.

Do you mean after the handshake hold, back rock, then one chasse?
@JosephLinkin
@JosephLinkin 2 ай бұрын
@@sunstrikedancesportjymcole Yes. From right to right. There is 4 beats of the music for her to end up beside you where she should do a rock step with her right foot. 2 beats for the rock step. then 2 beats to get to your other side where she does a rock step with her left. The follower has to get back to your right to get out. You can't get out from a left foot bak step. I can see in the video your partner holding a sep to change feet. On a separate note I like to change hands in a more subtle way. Doing an underhand turn or a right side pass and bring the followers right hand down into my right hand. The follower doesn't even know I changed hands. A waist turn is another option.

The point of the lesson was to get the students to brainstorm different ideas on how to end the step. There a multitude of variations in swing.
@JosephLinkin
@JosephLinkin 2 ай бұрын
@@sunstrikedancesportjymcole I'm not sure what you meant. My "separate note" was talking about how to get a right to right at the beginning of the move. I completely agree that there are many ways to get into a right to right as well as many ways to get out of a cuddle. Ten different instructors will give you nine different ways to do it.

Good stuff but like MOST dance vids this is frustrating because we never see the complete step. Most of us would like to see where we're going BEFORE we see how to get there. Demonstrate the complete step THEN chop it into parts.

I love the Peabody! Only one teacher down here in Leesburg, Fl ever taught it but he stopped for the pandemic and never restarted the class after things settled down. Is there a bit of upper body motion as part of the steps? In most dances upper body motion is frowned upon and we’re told “too much top”.

Hey Jym, I have another quick question: what dances do your students have the most difficulty learning? Recently we’ve been covering the WC Swing and NC 2 Step in 2 of our informal retirement community classes here and find them the most difficult to learn for me. Do you have any videos posted for them? Thanks, John
@sunstrikedancesportjymcole

Wc swing is very difficult at first , especially if you come from a ballroom background. Ft he basic concept are backwards. NC 2 step is so similar in feel to bolero I end up doing bolero

What count do you use for box steps in Foxtrot? S QQ S QQ vs SSQQ when traveling ? Yes. The natural turing box can mess with you if you don’t use it a lot. I keep say in my head “forward right, back left” over and over in my head until my muscle memory finally gets it.

I love your questions! It is sqq sqq. It’s called box timing. It is similar to waltz. Waltz if broken down in slows and quicks would be qqs

The right turns are difficult at first, but just keep doing them- slowly. When you do it slow you can catch your errors and fix them. Eventually you master it. Just keeping them until you longer have to think it
