Thank you! Amazing tips! Although I'm not sure how ethical it is to use ChatGPT for editing? Wouldn't the anti-AI programmes recognise it as AI-generated text?

Hey there, I think Web of Science is also a good source for writing a paper at a college level. whats your thoughts on that? also , it looked very easy when you looked for the articles, when its very important to get as specific articles as possible to save time. So using Bloolean is important, don't you think? when you just plug in sentences from the abstract it seems we are missing the whole point of learning about the topic. I want to believe it is that easy, but I don't know why am nervous the way to do it.

I would also look at the publisher. MDPI isn’t predatory, but it is close. They do have a suspiciously high acceptance rate and based on the topics they have sent me to review, they just want a body to provide a review. I’m regularly asked to review terrible papers from well outside my area of expertise. I want to support open access research, but MDPI seems to be more interested in collecting publication fees than publishing good science.

Hello sir, I am a fresh graduate from Bangladesh. I am currently working on my publications and I follow you a lot. Sir, I have a question if you please don't mind. I used some of the fast reading/finding information methods (let's say scispace/elicit/copilots and all) to fast forward. However, finding like this causes me to avoid the other parts of the paper which can help me to generate new ideas and topics. Can I please know your thoughts?

Hi Professor, I hope you are doing well. I have been having trouble landing PhD positions for the last 1 year. One mistake I did was to store everything locally. Hard disk got corrupted, and everything got erased. It has been 1 year since I have been unemployed and haven't had any opportunity. I have been looking for mentorship, some guidance. Although, I did an MBA, but I didn't get the right knowledge in terms of research methodologies, writing research proposals, papers, etc. I desperately need a position because now parents are scolding too as I have wasted 1 complete year. I have sent you a connection request on LinkedIn, I hope to connect with you and get some advice from you.

Yup, very helpful 👍 I thought I could research while writing and it was a disaster! I put data that should be in the analysis in the background and wrote a superlong introduction. Some parts should had been in the background. I kept discovering research papers that brought a new perspective to my problem so I kept readjusting my initial idea. Etc etc etc😂🤦

Incredible! However, i feel the peer system is just fine without going back to chatgpt. Although, if one must use chatgpt, they must first understand the principles of scholarly writing.

Thank you sir, for the interesting video, which made me want to do the little review ASAP. I found it a tedious work to do before this. I think i will be able to do better. And also thank you for thinking of the students whose first language is not English, like me and who cant afford to purchase expensive apps and software. Love from Sri Lanka

Sorry, but something doesn't seem right. For example, you published 40 papers in 2013 alone. How many hours a week do you work? How many courses do you teach? How much of each paper did YOU actually write? Many papers have 5 or 6 co-authors, for Pete's sake. When do you have time to produce all of your KZfaq content?

Yes so typically when you run a team you take the ‘senior author’ spot. It helps to have a lot of phds and postdocs who work with you. And don’t ask where I was spending my weekends back in 2013…

@@profdavidstucklerHaha, yes makes sense. Didn't mean to imply you weren't putting in the work, just that I don't really respect my discipline. I think it is responsible for a lot of misery in the world. I'm not willing to even put in 10 hours a week writing papers let alone 70.

I strongly advise academic students against relying on AI tools, such as GPT Chat, to compose their papers. These tools may produce impressive-sounding texts, but they ultimately undermine the student's intellectual growth and cognitive development. Intelligence, in itself, is not sufficient to produce meaningful and valuable research. Wisdom, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills are essential components of academic excellence. By using AI tools, students risk compromising their intellectual integrity and settling for mediocrity. As the ancient proverb suggests, "intelligence without wisdom is like an eagle swimming with the ducks." In other words, even the most impressive intellectual abilities can be rendered useless without the guidance of wisdom and discernment.
