Great job as always, if you could do an example of refinishing a piece of furniture with varnish stain we bought a dining room table with leaves and tall chairs. We liked the table and finish did not pay enough attention to the type of the finish we were surprised when we started getting little scratches you saw the different colors of finish right down to the hardwood the way people rest their feet on the chairs there is quite a lot of damage to the finish on the legs the only the solution I can come up with is use a safer stripper maybe one of those citrus ones, due to size it will probably have to😅😮be done🎉inside right where it lives with a lot of drop cloths and plastic do you have a suggestion on the type of stripper I can use, there is no one else I feel comfortable asking this types of questions! Idea is to strip it down to. The bare wood and refinish it. I don’t have access to a compressor or spray gun I kind of loss in. Figuring the finish with the table so flat and large I’m concerned any brush on finish will not come out without seeing brush marks. The normal finish I use on your hated furniture made out of pine is pure Tung oil. Often over an oak stain,The wood on the table is darker and harder than pine I don’t know how tung oil will look over a darker wood stripped. Do you have any suggestions what time of finish on a lrge smooth flat surface where you don’t have the ability to spray on a finish I asked the question because it is one of your not refinished projects! I hope this question is ok to ask on this non related job.

Stopped in to this channel to learn just enough to strip, stain, and finish a door, polish hardware and then watched this one as well to gain some more knowledge on painted doors. Made me realize how deep this craft really is, there is so much to learn. It made my project enjoyable and much better than had I just jumped into it first. Thank you, your work is truly masterful.

@johnsfurniturerepair Trena, Trena, Trena...you my dear need to be nicer to yourself. You did a great job as always! I have a suggestion for leftover fabric. When you do the dining chairs...how about matching napkins or placemats or both? I hope you treated yourself and got some rest after this client...that was alot of work! Thanks for the lesson and company. I was finishing off flooring and plastering walls while I listened. Of course I rewound a few times when I took breaks...lol.

Thank you Trena for tackling that graining! My entire house, all the doors, baseboards, and window/door frames are faux grained. I'm slowly working/learning how to repair chipped graining. You do beautiful work, especially the blending and toning.

@JohnsFurnitureRepair I have to say this restoration has got to be one of your best! I love the fact you included your customer in this one! I enjoy seeing their reaction. I struggle with research...can you please include scenes of your research ln future videos like this one? Where did you find your transfers please? I wonder if the dial with 31 is for the days of the month? Not sure where the Gregorian calendar was in effect.

I stand corrected...this is not one of your best...it is your best! A thought occurred to me at the end. The sticker on the back might refer to the painting portion. Some artists number their paintings in a series or they made limited replicas.

Applying epoxy putty to bare wood fiber is like icing a cake--first apply a "crumb coat" to stick down the loose stuff, and then apply the final coat to get the smoothness you desire. Great job, Trena!

@JohnsFurnitureRepair thanks for the lesson. I know on some restorations you can use wood hardener...but do you cut all the chewed wood off too. How should I decide how much chew do I remove? Obviously if it crumbles in my hand it has to go. But if I'm trying to be like you and keep as much of the original...how do I decide it? Like would running a bristle brush over chew work and if so what kind of brush? I use various brushes from toothbrushes to brass depending on the project.

@JohnsFurnitureRepair What a gorgeous door! I lost count...how many layers of varnish? Since most external doors are weather beaten should I apply a wood conditioner after sanding or does marine/spar not adhere? Trying to learn...never used those products. We had a gorgeous wood door that had 3 windows that were level on the top and sides but the bottoms curved down in 3 different lengths. Unfortunately no screen door. I'm in Nova Scotia...we have a lot of old Victorian homes. I'm thinking restoration of doors would be a good niche

@JohnsFurnitureRepair well done on the repairs. Normally I like ornate top plates but that one didn't suit the piece. If the piece itself was bigger then it would have been fine. If I wanted the same design but smaller...how would I duplicate the edge please? Thanks for the lesson
