Absolutely stunning! Do you also design bigger places? Like a 2 story house of 160 m2? 😅

Magnificent design. Hard to climb and probably harder yet to control temperature. Impossible to clean the rafters.

It would be a wonderful, romantic home for a couple. A dark green color for the external of the house would also work, to blend in with the surrounding trees and nature.

Any way to dig downward to gain an extra foot or so of head height for the living room? I love the design, but wonder about the feeling of claustrophobia as one enters.

My only issue is that the two upstairs bedrooms seem to have just small windows. The one on the left has one small window + window in the bathroom. The other bedroom has two windows + one in bathroom, but both seem very small, won't bring much light and will waste the view they could have from upstairs.

What a light-filled dream of a house. Amazing how dysfunctional it was before, but then along comes Gemma to transform it into this entire environment of spaces that provide peace, privacy, and ample socializing. Bravo again! I love the idea of bringing the garden closer into the view of the inhabitants via the courtyard, and the creation of the courtyard. It’s so beautiful and I hope the family is happy there. I’ve commented on this design before, but just viewed the video again, and there was just so much more to admire… this design keeps growing on me. If I had a house to redesign I would hire you in a heartbeat.

Brilliant work again! Would a spiral staircase also work? And an extended right angled mezzanine floor to the window, so a workstation could still be placed there?

Ohhh Gemma, this one is a show-stopper for me! How you managed to make four SUITES in that house while not giving a bit of character up is so amazing to me. I am not good at imagining something new from nothing, so I am always so impressed by how you come up with ways to live a 21st century life in often 19th century houses. I have always wanted to live in an old house like that, but there just aren’t that many here in Canada that look like these stone cottages; they are just so much more prevalent in the UK and Europe.

Beautiful design, but I don't understand baths in a bedroom. Why would anyone want a damp bedroom? Sleeping in a bathroom? There's a reason it's terrible feng shui.

Gemma, love your designs! I would love to see a follow up to this video, or one on a completely different plot/building that accommodates accessibility. The terraces, for example, are beautiful but in their current t form are not accessible for our friend, for example, who uses a wheelchair. You have such a knack for integrating wonderful solutions to design constraints so I’d love to see you include accessibility considerations if you’re game.

I love it , stunning, i'll never look at an old quirky building the same way from now on ;-) but i wonder about the costs of doing so much refubishing work and also about local craftmanship ..i mean not every local builder can work to this level or source the materials etc..

I'm not a fan of this one. If this house doesn't fit them, the owners should move. I agree that the house needs some updating, but changing the exterior would be a shame.

What a clever idea to find a "ruin" and show what you could transform it into. Brillant and you're so inspired and talented . I am wondering about the costs ..i'd love to find a ruin in the countryside and see it being transformed into a hideaway i'd never want to leave👏👏👏👏

It’s beautiful but feels impractical. I do not see this as a home for small children or elderly. I agree with the comments about cleaning and storage. I would have loved to see a home design dedicated to an artist or other creative. The space lends itself to be a great home for a second home.

great layout design. but your interior choices are quite jarring in contrast to the age of the building, and the present interiors. perhaps thats what a client wants. but if that is all that is offered i think your design choices would short change the owners. theres much in the present wood panelling that is worth preserving. an imitation victorian/cottage style kitchen would go down just as well as your present design.

The organization of the space is very excellent. However, there is very little storage or practical things like counter space anywhere, but I think it's because this is just the artistic version of it. Everything that's lacking for normal, every day living can be put in because the space is there, available, and ready to be used. TBH, I didn't think that such a complicated space could be designed so well. 👍
