The number of times someone asked me if I maybe can just put one camera on a tripod to record everything after hearing my price, Is laughable. I always explain that they can and should ask a kind neighbor to that because that will be even cheaper and the camera's in phones are really good these days :) Or what about can you record our event and it is really simple. After hearing the price the respond is: "But we only need a 1 minutes video of it". Then I have to explain that recording a whole event is much cheaper then presenting a one minute video of an event.

So you get those calls over in England too do you? There's no business like show business.

It's really problematic, but I think your approach is what all we should do. Don't burn bridges, some of the clients are simply ignorant. As much as you would want to burn the bridge and the client him/herself, being as kind as possible puts a good lowkey advertisement for you as he/she might end up bringing you up in a conversation with a more serious client that respects your work. Having a scream room at home can help, just have good soundproofing.🤣

You are so creative! Excellent video and wonderful teaching moment, one all the professionals in our industry can relate to. Now the new conundrum is that we’re no longer looking for the perfect camera but the perfect client.

As a professional musician I get this similar call/email too. It's even better when we're asked to perform free for charity, yet the person I'm conversing with is getting paid themselves. What I find even more infuriating is when clients contact me, I quote them and then they don't have the decency to say get back to me to say something like "No thanks"......They just ignore my follow up emails and calls. In Rotterdam as port and industry city, if you ask someone how things are going, they’ll reply jokingly with; "veel voor weinig, nooit chagrijnig". ("we do a lot for very little, but we're never grumpy"). We do the jobs that bring us fun, we do the jobs that are a pain but bring a good paycheck, we do the jobs to fill the schedule and sometimes we do the jobs we should never have started on. But we'll end the day with a smile anyhow, as we love the work itself.
