I joined the Navy in 1982 after I graduated from high school, and it’s not the same town I grew up in. It’s becoming another Jackson, along with a high cost of living.

Gastonia NC is a cesspool. It's full of crime and drugs are taking the life of our youth. Not a city I would raise a family in.

Been living in the Raleigh area for about 2 years moved from Northern Virginia. Lived in many places. NC is a growing area with many amenities. Diverse community with something for everyone. Weather is very nice. Warm Summers and cool winters - all the four seasons. While "natives" see growth as a negative change is inevitable and growth seems to be well planned through out the area.

FFG HOA does not include use of Tennis courts inside or indoor/ outdoor Pickelball. Cost to use indoor Pool. With Wyndham time shares restaurants are packed. Leaves very little for FFG Resident’s to enjoy being able to walk into golf course restaurant or local restaurant within the Glade.

It's not Little America. This is a portion of the Systeme d'alerte du Nord, of the Canadian Air Defense system. The "Colonial" looking TruckStop is actually an AN/FPS-124 Radar. Remember Fessenheim.

We do have a lot of shopping options within 20 min of village. Hot Springs has Sams Club, Kroger’s, TJMaxx, Best Buy, etc. Benton, AR has Target, an outlet mall, etc. This area is one of the fastest growing retail areas in state.

Not to be rude. I grew up in Tallahassee. This guy doesn’t even know how to pronounce the place, it’s Wakulla Springs, Maclay Gardens, Bradley’s Store sells the homemade sausage. Also, this guy has barely lived in Tallahassee. I would not rely on his “expertise .” I can tell most of his decisions are made around biking. Biking is not safe on Tallahassee roads.

The interviewer was more interested in talking about her hometown than Asheville. This should be called Moving to Portland, OR rather than moving to Asheville. She needs to do more research about the towns she is interviewing.

Some great points! We almost lived there but chose a place closer to family. I certainly will live to visit the area and have it on my list of places to retire or go if things don’t work out where we are. The people I met from the area were really great. It’s fun to see the wildlife that run through the neighborhoods. They mention some things we had also found in our research. Mostly we were concerned about remote work not continuing and stayed closer to our jobs. Castle 🪨 Rock has some amazing things to offer families!

Diversity isn't the answer - it is overrated. Instead, question popular narratives instead of repeating them, and listen to yourself instead of seeking approval.

The Greater Cleveland area is basically high crime, high taxes, arctic winters and sauna bath summers. Deep blue politically also. The only positive is that it’s a good place to buy a cheap house. Used to live there years ago before military service and never saw any reason to return, other than occasional visits to family. Avoid it at all costs.

This city is on my radar ! I want to live driving distance to family up north, mid size city, good schools, military friendly, low tax burden overall, and 4 seasons including thunder storms !! Bad traffic that sucks. I lived in Huntsville and the traffic was hard, some crime, and I didn’t fit in unless I stayed in the city (being a northerner).

Median home price is nearly $900K, so bring (lots of) money. Also, Highland’s population is 93% LDS, so if you are a non-Mormon, that could mean you really don’t fit in socially.

Pinnacles national park is in San Benito county. Rain is fairly sparse at 18 inches a year and flooding is relatively rare in Monterey county. Fog, especially in summer is plentiful near the coast so sweaters advised all year near the ocean. A short drive inland can see temperature increase of 20 to 30 degrees in summer.

The interviewer didn't know how to ask questions about Asheville. She needs to do a little, if not a lot, of research first. Asheville is not North Carolina. Asheville is very different and she very obviousloy had no idea. And if the interview is on Asheville, she needs to ask about Asheville, not his travels around the country - that's a whole other interview. I think you need to do another interview on Asheville. This is horrible! You need to rename this interview. If the viewer is expecting to learn about Asheville, this is a total waste of time.

Pismo is a great place--used to visit there every fall while we lived in CA. However, please be aware of the following facts: Median home price = $1.2 million---Average rental for 2br apt: $2,400/month. Pismo Beach property crime is 73.1 (US average is 35.4), but violent crime is a rather low 18.6 (US average is 22.7). Utilities are pretty reasonable, given the mild coastal climate. Moral of the story: if you choose to live in Pismo Beach, bring lots of money, or be prepared to have lots of roommates.

The most interesting and informative guest you've had thus far. She tells us the good and the bad, and that is appreciated for those of us wanting to learn the most about American cities! Unlike other guests, Elizabeth said what was good and not-so-good for her personally, and what may and not be good for others.

First time watching one of these videos. Jacki, great interview. Thank you for your insights and advice, especially moving to a red state when you're blue. Also about moving to a new area and assimilating. I hear that often but it's important to remember. Even though it's normal to compare where you are with where you came from, no one wants to hear that!

Bakersfield, CA: Moderately conservative in voting; average violent crime stats; nearly double the U.S. average in property crime; marginal air quality and ground water quality. Also, has an elevated risk for contracting coccidioidomycosis (Valley Fever), a respiratory/pulmonary disease caused by fungal spores endemic in the soil. Housing is fairly affordable, at least by California standards, with a median home price of ~ $350,000. Median income is ~ $56,000. Bakersfield has a Livability Score from Areavibes of 62/100, which is considered below average. Bakersfield crime rates are 76% higher than the California average. Cost of living in Bakersfield is 20% lower than the California average. Like many places in California, it has a growing homeless/dumping problem. Overall, there are better places to consider.

Thanks for this interview on Temple Texas. I was through there (stayed in Gatesville for a night) on a road trip to help my son move his family to East Texas just over a year ago. I now have the bug for Texas too. I hope an interview with someone from Kerrville Texas is on your radar. It is 3 hours SW of Temple and about ⅓ the size so I bet there are significant and interesting differences.

This sounds more like a tourism commercial for the Monterey Peninsula. I grew up in Carmel Valley and still visit family there frequently (it has changed a LOT from the 70's!); there is a VAST difference between "south" Monterey county and the Monterey Peninsula. South county is mostly rural & agricultural and a long drive to the areas she describes on the Peninsula (aquarium etc.). But a lot more affordable and has a lot of beauty once you get away from the 101 Fwy. The one thing I'd say South Monterey County has better than most places is hog hunting, if that is your thing.

Your interview has inspired me to visit Bakersfield and check it out. No offense, but the Bakersfield I'd heard of had a bad reputation due to crime. Since gentrification ruined Portland (Oregon), maybe Bakersfield will be the new "weird" capital. ;)
