Imo there isnt a "right" side in these scenes, but i do think there is a sincerity in Troy's character behind his actions. Like deep down i really think he wants to teach his children life lessons, like the value of money or the importance of self reliance. The issue is that it doesnt come out right and Troy's stubbornness and cold demeanor overshadows the lessons
