Hello ASkobi. My name is Gerson Bragagnoli, I am Brazilian, retired university professor and knife maker. I'm trying to improve my knives by making inlay (for now copper) I watched your videos where you embellish 3 axes using copper, silver and gold inlay. I would like to ask 3 questions: 1 - how deep is the cavity where you will inlay the copper (or gold, or silver) 2 - how thick is the copper piece that you cut out with the goldsmith's saw to place in the cavity 3 - what angle of the burin do you use. Congratulations on the beautiful work you do Note: I am using a translator

Hello, I'll try to answer your questions to my best ability. 1. The cavity ranges between 0.3mm and 1.0mm, depending on what I'm inlaying. I can do deep cavity because I have that option on an axe, but if engraving on an object that is not thick, the cavity will probably be around 0.25mm. 2. The copper pieces I use range from 0.2mm to 1.2mm, again depending what I'm inlaying. 3. I use several different ones. 120Deg, 110Deg, 90Deg Sometimes I have to improvise and make unique gravers depending on what kind of metal is engraved. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I use different kinds, depending on the type of the inlay. If the inlay is large size then something like a 120Deg graver. When inlaying a wire, then a flat graver is used.

There are several grades of titanium alloys. Grade 3 is easier to engrave. It is relatively soft, while grade 5 titanium is hard and when you cutting it chips are braking like flakes. I use gravers made from tungsten carbide round rods of several diameters from 1/16" to 1/8" from centennial carbide. Lubricating the graver helps as well.

I noticed in the letters you used wire and in the wide areas you cut to the pattern. why in your wide area you don't use wire too? what can not be done in a wide area with a wire? For the technique of cutting width according to a pattern like that, do you use a special glue to make it stronger? For cutting techniques according to what pattern do we also have to cut the under cut too? Thank You.

For letters you have not choice but use wires. For larger patterns I find it easier to cut out the patters. But if I don’t have large pieces of metal to cut pattern from, then I use wires. I do t use any glue, just I create burrs to hammer in the metal or wires.

For sure! I am a gun engraver and I run a Lindsay Classic handpiece- he is as good of a machinist as an engraver and that’s saying something! I currently use a GRS ball vice with the bearing locked and spin a shimpo banding wheel. The ball vice gets moved around but the shimpo turntable stays centered under my Leica scope. It’s a pretty standard mid priced setup and I’d like to have slightly more stability, weight, inertia, and smoothness. I think this setup might be better for mid sized items though? Or maybe for a 6 or 8 inch revolver it’d work fine? I am an amateur machinist and mechanic and was considering building a larger more solid turntable from an automotive spindle with opposed timken bearings like a wheel hub.

I have a question in regard to creating a laser transfer. How do you prevent your transfer while printing it to keep it from going through the laser infuser. On my printer it seems that after you press print, it automatically goes through the dryer after it prints is there a way to prevent this. I’ve tried different papers that are silicone, coating, etc. to keep the print from adhering to the paper none work as well as what you’re showing. Thanks.

I stop the printer before it goes to the dryer part by opening the front printer cover. This mimics a paper jam and printer stops the paper feed.

New engraver here, I was wondering what your experience is with background stippling on projects. I know that almost everyone removes the background first then they stipple it however I was wondering if you ever stipple background without even removing any of the metal. I would assume that removing first then stippling makes it look a lot better but was trying to find a comparison of removing vs not removing. tThank you, great videos!

I do it both ways. There cases when I stipple background only and there are cases when I remove background and then stipple it. When you remove background it gives a more of a 3D look of the engraving.

Thank you so much for the information, I have just 2 questions: 1) Is the S9 as steady as the A60 when installed into the acrobat stand? 2) At the same magnification of the field, can you see the difference of S9 and A60? Is S9 better?
@ASkobiDesigns
@ASkobiDesigns Жыл бұрын
Yes, it is steady on acrobat stand, although when you are zoomed in to a high degree (alot more than A60), then any slight touch of any equipment produces fairly large jerks. You will learn how to work with the system to avoid these jerks. But if you are zoom same level as A60 - then the steadiness is pretty much the same. I can't tell for sure if it's better, but definitely it's comfortable and has a higher zoom to do bulino engraving. I also have heard that it's better if you are working with jewelry, better depth of view.
