Wtf? What are you thinking? Why did you get an adapter instead of just getting a self-sealing can tap?

That’s what I ended up doing. There’s a video on it as well. I still use it. The adapter would have been fine it it had been engineered correctly

I have one too, but I did the file because I’m wanting guys like me working on their own cars to see a way to accomplish this. I thought about a wire wheel on a drill & I meant to mention that was an option, but forgot.

Could the thermostat have stuck and caused the first overheat issue? Maybe. Is there any sign of coolant loss on the engine? Staining from the coolant? If it got low enough it could have overheated then when you filled it, it needs to be bleed out. That allen on the top of the neck is to bleed air out while refilling, when running it will burp out the remaining air. I can't explain the coolant out the overflow jug unless air is pushing it out🤔

The first over heating issue was a failed radiator cap. Replaced it & truck ran fine for 3/4 days then started getting warm again. I need to replace the thermostat just as a precaution

Very cool find but, it is not a ‘72. It looks like a ‘73 or maybe even an early ‘74 but most definitely not a ‘72. The silly 5/mph bumper to bumper impact law came into effect for all new 1973 vehicles sold in the U.S. and Canada. Unfortunately, that forced Chrysler to make a “drastic” change to the front-end of the New Yorker. Too bad because the ‘69-‘72 front view of the New Yorker is absolutely iconic. Imho, it was one of the cleanest looking front-end of any vehicle ever made. Thanks for posting man, love these awesome old behemoth luxury cars from yesteryear!

No sir. Incorect. This is the nationwide R134A seal sealing can & the adapter to make it work with the manifold hoses or hand held hose. It’s not the older R12 style or the newer synthetic R1234yf style. You can buy all of these types of cans on Amazon & other online sites. And countless auto parts stores. Does not ask you what part of the country you live in or does it list it by region. You simply need to know what type of system you have. This video is about the self sealing R134A cans available nationwide. Most common system currently.

I just did this. When I rinsed mine off I made the mistake of not drying them. I had to do it over again and dry every socket by hand and wipe them down with something similar to WD-40 to keep them from rusting again. I have a bunch of old Proto and Craftsman USA sockets.

Interesting and fun to see. This Plymouth has Belvedere exterior trim with Savoy upholstery and interior trim. The four push button control for the transmission indicates the two speed Powerflite automatic so the engine probably was a 2 barrel carburetor 318V8 called the V800 that used regular gas and produced 225 hp.
