This is an AMAZING conversation. It's super helpful for me as a lead pastor who sees small groups as the catalyst for church growth. God Bless You!! 🙏🏾

My thing is… I can’t stand the workbooks that they hand out for small groups… I feel like it replaces someone coming up with an actual lesson. Then they sit there and ask you questions about the workbook and how the passage makes you feel. I’m not learning anything that way!

When did Jesus say "worship me?" Never.

I saw an long multi-part article promoting this book. When discussing the Great Commission it mentioned the action words quite well but FORGOT exactly what is to be taught: "[how] to obey everything [He] has commanded." This is what churches decline. They HATE Jesus's 3-year incarnate ministry. The prefer reading Pauline theology to actively and humbly following Jesus in practical ways.

i think corporate spiritually fasting is almost universally ignored by churches in america. i concede that stout/obese pastors may be filled with the Holy Spirit and obeying the Gospel and making disciples, but am still a little suspicious. fasting is should be as common as praying and tithing.

The church people should look at themselves, and make sure they are not the ones driving people away. I went to a Methodist church and was treated the most horrible I have ever been treated He you see Jesus be sure to tell him exactly how good you are!!

Reminds me of a portion of the Lord's Prayer... adapted for our Contemporary Culture: "... Lead us not into Temptation, But Deliver us from ME-VILLE." These people who constantly want to hear THEMSELVES talk would have had a hard time LISTENING to Jesus. And our churches are PANDERING to this ME-FOCUS, and AWAY from Jesus. Heartbreaking.

Its simple. All of the religions are in competition with the internet, KZfaq, and Facebook. Young people are on social media. Young people are not buying into religion because they don't believe it any longer. There's nothing that can be done.

I'd love to work for/with this guy. I'm seeing lots of stuff going on in the church too and have lots of ideas about it. His research confirms issues I have been seeing in the parishes I've served and also addresses the things that I have seen work. Relationships and community build strong churches, but those things must be rooted in prayer and service. When they work in harmony, it clicks for everyone.

What about churches like Elevation and New Spring (was Perry Noble's movement)? These seem to be level 5 because they keep multiplying new churches. The only thing I question is that they are satellite churches and stream one personality preaching - not developing new pastors. Their campus pastors are more like small group managers.

Our church is 7 months old. I'm the lead pastor, and I believe small groups should be the heartbeat of our church. However, I don't know how to get started. In addition, I have several other questions. This video was a great starting point for me. Thanks!

The mic you use and the room you're in makes your vocal audio very tinny and hard to listen to compared to the people you are interviewing.

Great interview Tony. Love the simplicity of this message and how it reinforces our need for others to fill our voids. Many parts, one body - under the headship of Jesus Christ. Great leaders lead from their strengths and invite others into their limitations.

The information is wonderful and most inspiring; however the background music filters out so much of the dialogue clarity leaving the listener feeling a bit frustrated. Keep up the amazing ministry, learning is so valuable for churches.

That's all Jesus wants..us to be "all in". There is still going to be one final, huge, Great Awakening yet to come. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is coming once again to this land. This land, the U.S., will be turned upside down with the church becoming "revived" and then God's Spirit spilling over into the general public. People are tired of life as they know it. They're going to continue to grow tired of it and within 3 or 4 years, slowly, God's strength and power will come through the proclammation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
