Old video and will always be relevant. I will always say, if men can weave fishing nets, design and sew clothes to wear, why is cross stitching a big deal.

Great video. I hosted a retreat in March, and there was one man there stitching. He said that it helps him relax, from the stresses of life. I think that's the main reason that we all stitch.

I have glow in the dark thread that I will add to windows or a fire place or moon . You could add beads here and there. Like for French knots ,in the eyes, different colored ones on tree for Xmas.🎄 all kinds of special threads out there. Think outside the x .

I was introduced in cross stitching in highschool run by nuns in the late 90's. I started with anime characters I bought from a local shop in Silang, Cavite Philippines. Then I went on customizing the patterns of beautiful women like my crush in highschool in 1999-2000 and a sexy dancer-actress 2003. I stopped in 2003 when I realized that it's for gay men, when I said in a college class that this is my hobby (some of my classmates smirk- stigma that it's only for women) and when I gave it as a gift to a local dancer-actress (her customized pattern portrait of herself), some of my co-fans thought I was gay and started acting weird towards me and even in her afternoon soaps on TV, they showed some hints pertaining to me. Now that I found about the term manbroidery and at this time and technology, I can now customize any pattern I can think of online for free without going to the shop and pay for it, buy cross stitch tools that are not available in the late 90's, I'm thinking to start all over again. Maybe sell some patterns and finish works of mine online.

I listened to this great interview with Cas Holmes yesterday. It was an easy and fluid exchange with Jamie (Mr. X Stitch and even with carer's brain and a whole flock of birds. It was good to hear about the philosophies and approaches to reusing previous work, and I liked the improvised gold leaf idea. Thank you Jamie for your erudite and inspiring interview, and your continuing updated approach to what textile art can achieve today. I was very honoured to be asked by Cas to contribute to her last book 'Emboidering the Everyday' for which I am truly grateful.

I don't know if this is possible for the KZfaq podcast, but if it is, it would be really cool if you can get the artist do a video of their real time working on a piece, I always feel I learn a lot looking at how artist use their tools and practice their craft.

That's a good idea, but quite ambitious in the first place. But I like the idea - almost the way Proko does it for ink artists.

As the designer behind The Manly Art of Cross Stitch, I couldn't agree more. I find that women who stitch are often pleasantly surprised by the complexity of the designs I stitch as well as the uniformity of my stitching.

I started cross stitching about 5 years ago after I retired. I had done some very briefly in one class at primary school. My main hobbies both involve quite intense effort to participate at a high level as a clarinet player and a runner. I was looking for something I could just relax doing for a short or long time and that was interesting. I started very small with a mini kit and have progressed from there although I have not gone bigger than 15,000 stitches yet but plans are prepared. In terms of designs, I concentrate on scenes or "pictures" and have absolutely no interest in samplers. Most of my bigger work is from buildings and charted artworks. Definitely take a look at your magazine to see what kind of designs are being produced.

I am so glad to have found you! I have been cross stitching for less than a year, but already it feels a permanent fixture in my life. I really enjoy Floss Tube, but wasn’t sure if men were welcome in the cross stitch community. I am a nurse, so being one of the few men in a given environment that is predominantly female is not new experience, but I have been feeling a bit shy about attending retreats or meeting up with local cross-stitch groups. I am blessed to have a wife that isn’t embarrassed if I say I am bringing a cross stitch project to work on while I wait in some waiting room (such as the dealership while my car is being repaired). It is meditative and calms my racing mind in the first five stitches. Thank you for sharing as you did, it was a blessing! I am looking forward to following your channel.

Russell, when I first got into cross stitch, I too was a little shy to whip out my WIP in public. Now I will stitch anytime I have a chance - city buses, airports, cruise ships, waiting rooms. People are often intrigued by a guy who stitches, and older women especially will express happy surprise at seeing a man stitching. One moment that stands out was when I was stitching a Black Sabbath design while waiting for my car to be worked on. The mechanics were so impressed, and several guys clustered around me to watch me work on a rock and roll cross stitch design.

Fantastic discussion! You are so right. If more men could see cross stitch as an acceptable form of art, creativity, production, logic, mathematics it would allow so many benefits to them and their mental health and also benefit the market for designs reaching a range of “masculine” tastes. The craft has come a long way in the last 25 years but I guess this area still needs some encouragement. Thank you for speaking up for the blokes who want to and love to stitch.

I kitted together 2 CS designs for my husband; he's open to doing it, especially since the designs he has are right up his alley, but he is a little intimidated. I'm gonna get him to complete one of these little designs one of these days as a challenge to myself! I just re-subscribed to your mag. I like that you do your vlogs while out walking. And having a Woodpecker cheering you on how great is that 👏🏻 As your magazine has a different theme everytime which influences all the designs and all the content, I think it makes sense to be able to choose which back issues you would like. If that is only going to be two instead of 4, that is still going to be well worth it! As for names, everything I think of sounds lame 🤷🏻‍♀️ sorry. Enjoy your spot of nature 🌳🐿️🍀

So pleased to hear from you again on KZfaq - pleased to hear that the plaster is coming off. You are quite right about the beneficial effects of X Stitch - Having a rubbish time with various official bodies at the moment - X stitch gives me an opportunity to calm down, reset and start again - rubbish at meditation, but this gives me the same potential result with something to show for it!! Thank you. Looking forward to the forthcoming magazine - please never compromise, always be the best version of yourself and your magazine!
