Hello greetings from Switzerland, 🇨🇭 I like to repair older computers especially older laptops 💻the reason why I'm watching this video as if to see if I can improve the performance of my old computer and maybe still use it I changed the operating system to Linux put an SSD in it and more ram Now I'm considering putting liquid metal in an old computer Older computers have a lot of advantages they have a lot of I/O Outputs 🔌 usb A HDMI VGA Optical drives 💿 and many more. And batterys are replaceable 🔋 There's a lot of other reasons to Elegance Beauty strudines To save money💵 or to save the environment🌍 Or pure simply nostalgia🧓

Where's the benchmarks, what's the temperature before and after? it's cool but you cannot decide that your pc is fast just by eye like this, you have an SSD, this is what feeds your laptop with power, your pc aren't being fed by liquid metal you know?

They put too much, but your laptop is fine. They put some sort of foam barrier around the CPU. The thing is, liquid metal has a high surface tension, which means, it won't go pass the barrier even if there's a small gap nor that it'd soak into it-- think of it like water, but very hard headed lol idk how to explain. LM just loves to stick to themselves. My laptop uses 2mm wide thermal paste as barrier. (ice fusion v2 paste into syringe with plastic tip from conductonaut, then cut with scissors to 2mm wide) From experience, too little of LM causes huge core to core temperature difference like 7+ celcius. Too much and enough has the same and best result. In this case, Asus might have put more than needed rather than having too little of it since this would destroy your performance. I feel like their confidence with their barriers make us consumers worried. lol idk
@Fatalution
@Fatalution Жыл бұрын
Congratulations, you have killed the laptop. You should NEVER use liquid metal with copper heatsinks. Your GPU heatsink is not plated copper. The liquid metal is now fused with it, destroying the GPU die as well.
@kaybro
@kaybro Жыл бұрын
Yep, probably. Gallium and indium will slowly react with copper creating hard intermetallids which can and probably will damage the GPU die because of heatsink preassure. Espeacially if the laptop is accidentally bumped or dropped. Also ASUS made a barrier to prevent leaks of LM onto the board. It's not enough to do just dielectric coating on GPU, in case of a slight bump or a drop of the laptop even one drop of LM will damage a lot of components on the motherboard. I coudn't find the official reason why ASUS plated only CPU heatsink but that's a fact. Maybe for the price reasons, because GPU has a lot more components around the die and i think it's a lot harder (and more expensive) to do good and verified industial dielectric protection on GPU (different chips have different sizes, so component layout around the die is not unified for different GPUs). So I think that's why only CPU has LM. But I'm pretty sure that most people will ignore this. Sadly. Content creators should either do a disclaimer "I am not a real expert, do you own research" or do more serious research themselves before posting content on such complex operations. Message to people who want to try liquid metal and are watching videos and "guides": 1. you need to do at least a DIY nickel plating of a heatsink. 2. you need to do dielectric coating of components around the die. 3. you need to make a barrier to prevent leaks of LM onto the board. It should not be too thin for providing protection. And It should not be too thick so the gap between the CPU/GPU die and the heatsink won't increase. And even that doesn't give you a 100% guarantee that everything will be alright in the long run.

It's not actually sharing your location. It opens maps because the operating system thinks that the link is an address, so it opens your default application for maps and tries to search for the item name. This happens to me all the time. When it opens the maps application, your default location (where you live) will be on there and it will be illustrated by a pin. You'll also notice that it tries to put in the item name as an address and you can see that it doesn't come up with any results (5:51). There's nothing to worry about.

I think this is surely normal. Because Asus has some technology to not spreading LM to any electronic devices on motherboard. They are trying to get a patent on it. you already saw that processor has a good insulation. LM may overflow from the processor but can not pass other side.

hy, i have a msi laptop GF63 thin , I want to add liquid metal, but the base CPU heatsink is copper (there is no problem putting liquid metal), but the GPU base heatsink has the color of aluminum, the problem is that aluminum does not you can put liquid metal but instead in nickel and silver if you can(I have read that the heatsink can be made of nickel or silver as well and you can put liquid metal there), the problem is how to identify if it is silver, nickel or aluminum so I know whether to apply liquid metal or not. I don't know if you knew how to answer me about it, thanks!
