I'll be honest... I think DCC sounds for diesels are very clever, but I've never heard a model of a steam loco that actually sounds right. They always sound... well to be honest, a bit like the early Train Sim sounds before you guys got involved. If you can bring the quality you have brough to TS, to the modelling world, you could really do amazing things!!!! I will watch with interest and anticipation! GOOD LUCK!!!

I think one issue with DCC sounds for model trains, steam or otherwise, especially in the smaller scales, is lack of adequate bass. You just can't fit a 15" subwoofer driver in a 00-gauge tender. Which got me thinking. What if someone released a "sound chip" that includes a wireless transmitter that sends all frequencies below a certain point to a separate powered subwoofer of decent size, with fitted wireless signal receiver? Ultra low frequencies are in theory non directional, so the sub can be placed pretty much anywhere within "range". Much like how many home audio systems have a subwoofer or two along with conventional speakers. If such a scheme is feasible, small model trains can have all the bass they need, and more. All this said, I've heard (via KZfaq) some impressive sounding 00-gauge steam locos.

Oh my word, I've got that loco. In fact, it's my very first model loco I've ever had when I was a toddler back in the early 1990s. Nice one Matt. Hope the project goes well for you, your grandad and uncle would be very proud of you. 👍🏻

You can look at other model railway channels for the DCC-controlled railways. I hope you'll begin with more than just Evening Star. Rails of Sheffield have lots of DCC Sound-fitted models on offer, including a favourite of mine: the GWR Manor of Dapol and Accurascale status. Show me a GWR Manor hard at work, and I'll show you how much I truly love her.

Not sure on release date yet. 1501 preserved is definitely included, as it appeared from 1997-2006 and 2012 to 2023, and a fictional late GWR livery as well

This video is really peaceful and fascinating. My favorite of all steam locomotives in the world are the trams. They're so unique and different than what a normal steam engine in general would look like. Not a lot of wooden boxy steam trams have survived long enough to still be in good use of service on other railroads/railways thereof, but their history is what inspired many and many railway enthusiasts to help them prosper. I kinda wish I had me a gift to build and design a boxy wooden tram engine of my own and go work for a railroad company and see what astonishment my tram can do.

Taw Valley's last run ought to have been last year, so she could be in with a better chance of being overhauled. However, although I don't love her, let's hope she won't end up being disposed of. Overhauls are becoming unfairly expensive.

Right up my alley. Going further from 7829, there were plans to construct more of the Manors. However, the engine that was to be numbered 7830 was never built. The plans were scrapped, so no-one knows what name might have been given to no. 7830. I made up stories about this "lost" engine, calling her Phantom Manor (Phantom of the Opera musical story reference). The engine to get the name in my stories is 7822 Foxcote Manor, who is preserved.
